Name: Susan's Place Library: Changing the Vocal Characteristics of a Postoperative Transsexual Patient: A Longitudinal Study

Description: Because of differences in laryngeal size and mass, average fundamental frequency (F0) for females is higher (220 Hz) than for males (110 Hz). The perceived pitch of the laryngeal fundamental has long been accepted as an acoustic cue to speaker sex. Thus, for male-to-female transsexuals, fundamental frequency must change for the perception of a female voice.
