I see Deuteronomy 22:5 in a spiritual sense as Christ is the "man" and the church is the "woman." It would be an abomination for him to wear our garments as our righteousness is as filthy rags. Neither shall he veil, or cover himself with our spirit. Our veil is his Spirit. We cannot wear that which pertaineth unto him. He is the one that wears the mitre of Holiness Unto The Lord. We are not holy in ourselves and cannot wear that which pertaineth unto him in that sense. The laws and prophets should be used to glorify our Lord and not condemn others in a judgemental way.

I am well aquainted with this scripture, due mainly to the fact, that I grew up in the United Pentecostal Church where they practice this to this very day and see it literally saying do not wear pants if you are a woman. They were originally created for a man until the 1800's when women began to take on another role and then on into womens lib and adventually pants were created for a women. If you study the setting, God could not have been talking about the tradition man came up with suggesting that it is refering to a women wearing pants. Men and women of that day wore the dress type of outfits, skirted and the culture didn't even have pants and dresses as they do today. Even in that setting: it is possibly idenifying when men went out to war and the war attire they had to wear was not to be put on by women. Although, It could fit well with transvestites today, transgenders, drag queens and just women in general getting to close to the look of a man in her appearance or in the actual wearing of mens clothing. But for pants on a women to undue the blood of Jesus who died on the cross to save mankind, a piece of material sowed up the crouch made into pants could not be abomination to undo Calvary's sacrifice. Thats one thing I know for those who believe it is disobedience to scripture and could possible be facing an eternity without God and sent to hell as a result of a woman wearing pants. It is the mere interpetation of the United Pentecostal Old timers of yesterdays and they hold to the tradition of men, well meaning of course; especially at the fast changing pace of our world of what it use to be.

I just wanted to say sorry for dummy me who did not notice your highlighted name and when I clicked to see your writings; one who studied the hewbrew well; the true understanding of the scripture. I apologise for my unfounded comments although I must say I got that war thought from Calvary Chapel, Chuck Smith, when he tried to figure out its meaning and taught his congregation. Once again, I am sorry I did not read your written topic first before I answered.

You guys are idiots. Just because times change doesn't mean the Word of God changes. If you want to throw out this law because it is "old fashioned" then you may as well throw out everything Christ ever said, after all, that was 2,000 years ago. Also, pants were created in the 1800's for men? Really? WRONG! Denim Jeans were created for miners around then, but they had pants before the birth of Christ. Some were made for men, some were made for women. Don't try to turn a direct, clear, simple law into some far reaching, nonsensical correlation between Christ and the Church. Christ preached against Lawlessness.

What the pooh is that response! I don't think so. Pants were not in the bible days so stop tying to keep that UPC tradition in operation for obedience unto salvation. Get over it and go put on some pants! Oh, I forgot your name is Matthew. Well, how about your wife or girlfriend!! Heaven awaits the believer in Christ and those that trusted in his death at the cross for their salvation rather you wear pants or a dress! Go get delivered! When you get to heaven you will find many women there who wore pants on the earth and realized you held to that for nothing. I don't seek to offend you or anyone just speaking the truth!

In study of this the hebrew is geber which is a reference to "men" as in the male gender. However, it is missing the "ish" which would make that a soldier so the idea that a soldier's garments is what is in reference is wrong. Also the idea that the Jewish people of the time didn't have pants is also incorrect. Check the book of Leviticus and Isiah. The MEN of GOD wore breeches or in modern term pants. Also the idea that women in general should be allowed to wear a mans garment was unheard of in Israel cause it was a adbominiation unto God and a quick way to a less than pleasent death. For attire reference see Isaiah 47 verses 1-5 for the attire of what is called a Harlot and Proverbs 7. If the scripture fits and you get offended remeber that the word of God is a two edged sword. Futhermore, I would ask that any response be biblically based and used in correct contextual manner; that is to say I don't want to hear opinions or traditions of indiviual churches/ organizations. Once again if you get offended it's THE WORD of GOD not me for I am just showing you in scripture what the BIBLE says.
