Looking for what assumptions others might make, that do not apply to you.

Simply, I don't believe that there are only two genders.

any point when i am told i am doing an action in the wrong manner, if the action has a result then i can't be doing it in a wrong or inappropriate manner. Like giggling, i can giggle. And I do often.

Biggest Assumption We Disagree With:

You can't be completely male and completely female at the same time
Oh really?

Being given the gift of two-spirits meant that this individual had the ability to see the world from two perspectives at the same time. This greater vision was a gift to be shared, and as such, Two-spirited beings were revered as leaders, mediators, teachers, artists, seers, and spiritual guides

Whats one or more biggest binary (polar) assumptions you disagree with

I disagree that it's all in my head. That it's not possible or acceptable to be me, or even like me.

It's in my heart
in my soul
It's in my being
it is in my identity

Agreed wholly and fully.

I also disagree with the idea that if you do not "pick a gender" (meaning you don't feel either boy or girl) that it is assumed you don't know who you are.

And I agree with you, Tay.

Point anyone who says that to Liona Boyd, first lady of the guitar.  She sure is NOT a man, but she can play a MEAN guitar.

Even so.  It wasn't considered proper and delicate for her when she started.  In fact, a reviewer once said "It's a shame she's a woman.  She could go so far."  But a girl with a guitar, who was not singing?  It was not considered right.

What's your exact style?

The whole male dominated music industry drives me crazy. I play trad folk, and have always liked that there's more gender equality within that genre, however there's still way more male guitarists.

I had not noticed that level of resistance to a female classical guitarist when I was in school in the late '70's, and 1 of 3 students of the instrument there were female. But I was trying to wear a tux then, so... there ya go.

I am an electric guitarist, primarily. My goal is to improvise well-formed melody in real-time, usually to a static ground, comparable to Indian Raga, and/or some forms of Arabic music, etc.
I did the classical guitar trip for about 6 yrs, initially to get some chops, then briefly considered a career touring with it, but, long story short, I wasn't Liona Boyd.

There was a rock guitarist in a Jeff Beck sorta style back then called April Lawton, who played rings around most men. Interestingly enough, she was typically accused of being pre-op MtF... ::)

I disagree that gender is binary.
There are more than two gender identities.
Androgyne is a third gender identity independent of the gender identities of male and/or female.

I disagree that gender is polar.
Masculine and feminine gender are not polar opposites.
There are more differences within the two traditional genders than between the two genders.

The genders of male and female, and aggregates of what is distinctly male gender and distinctly female gender, constitute the binary gender system of masculine and feminine with its assigned gender roles and corresponding gender identities. Androgynes are not a part of the male/female binary gender set or binary gender system. Androgynes are members of a separate gender identity group, independent of the dichotomy of male/female gender.

A 'dichotomy' is a separation into two parts, a division into halves or into pairs. The gender binary is a dichotomy that only recognizes and addresses the two mutually exclusive genders we know as Male and Female. Androgynes don't identify with either of the binary genders, or the gender roles associated with them. Androgynes identify with the mindset and psychology of other Androgynes. Androgynes are unwilling, if not unable, to accept the assignment of any gender roles for themselves on a fundamental level. Androgynes don't consider their natural human behaviour to be a breaking of gender boundaries.

In other words, if you are having difficulty answering a question about "binary (polar) assumptions" and breaking gender boundaries, it might be because Androgynes don't usually think in such terms.

I am an Androgyne.
I am not Cisgendered, not Cross-gendered, not Bi-gendered, not Neutrois, not a Crossdresser, not Genderqueer.
I'm something else entirely...
Something that existed beyond and before the creation of the binary genders.

But the world does, so you are breaking the perceived polarity by disagreeing with it. You naughty bloom you.

I actually did my final paper for Women's Studies last year on the low level of respect given to female musicians.  If anyone wants to read it, I could post it to my Livejournal or something so that you could.  Just let me know.

I consider 90% of what we call gender to be dependant on what is fashionable for society at the moment. I feel I just don't fit with what we call female in our culture today. But I'm developing the idea that more people just go along with it rather then fit it.
