Entercom Communications Corporation: When Big Business Demonizes Innocent Children

The community response to Sacramento radio station KRXQ FM, following hateful and threatening remarks toward gender variant children on May 28th, has been overwhelming and gratifying. A GLAAD Call to Action and a remarkable report by Michael Rowe of the Huffington Post on May 2 sparked a groundswell of outrage and protest from the transcommunity and our advocates.

According to a GLAAD Blog update, McDonald's is the 10th major company so far to withdraw advertising from KRXQ.

Nine days ago, KRXQ morning hosts Rob Williams and Arnie States ridiculed and defamed a transitioned Nebraska child and her loving family, going so far as to promote shame and even violence against gender variant youth. States remarked:

Given that they've been pulled from the air until Thursday the 11th says quite a bit.

I don't believe for a minute that it was RAD's idea that they would do three days of mea culpas and penance for their gaff and not have any on air live programming.  I would suspect that the management pulled the plug on them while the back room people give them some education and the finance people try to plug the holes in the lost sponsorship.  You can almost hear the spin doctors from here.  I will say though that Dawn's defense of the children and trans people in general, while inarticulate, seemed to come from the heart.  And hope that she does not bear the brunt of any disciplinary action.  The other two clowns, can burn for all of me.

I am gratified to see action of this nature occurring.

People say that we shouldn't compare the LGBT movement with the black movement, but there are similarities.  When consciousness of black problems was raised, there was a growing movement of change that attempted to address these issues.  I can only hope that this is not an isolated incident, but a true deep change in society to tolerate and accept all of us and to not tolerate hatred and derision.

In another thread Tekla said that she doubt that B of A would pull an ad because of this.  But BofA has a corporate policy regarding gender identity issues and yes they would pull their sponsorship of the hateful program.  Shock jocks or not, the boys need to be fired very publicly, and the girl should get her own show.  She at least had some sense.

At least on the local level, and to the degree this is a local story, most of the stuff focused on the behavior advocated toward children with the TG stuff strictly taking a backseat, mentioned, but not the focus.

And a good friend of mine transitioned as a VP for BoA, full coverage, but then again, most VPs have full medical coverage.

Being a VP at a bank is not that big of a deal.  Just about everyone is.  It is a process by which an employee can be held to fiduciary responsibility if they screw up.  In other words, if you make a boo-boo with someones money, they can hold you responsible for the loss.

It means being financially responsible for repayment, and civil, and criminal actions.  While the bank is held harmless.

Banks do usually have the better medical plans.  I know.  I took quite an advantage of mine for my SRS surgery.  It wasn't easy, but it did happen.

It is all connected. It doesn't matter BofA's motivation, they may have responded to a backlash. Their response made the media take notice. Media makes the public take notice. The public makes the corporations take notice.  The initial motivation becomes meaningless.

It has to start somewhere.

Oh I don't know, she was in charge of the mortgage department, and how she got there I don't know except her path went through Notre Dame as an undergrad and the Wharton School of Biz there in Nichole's Philly for her MA in finance. (Wharton is not just an MBA school, its the original business college)

I know that after transition she left and started her own company.  She is very successful, or at least, she has a killer house.
