Electrolysis? HUH?
« on: September 04, 2009, 03:08:29 am »
Hi guys I've been searching around about electrolysis and i found out a couple of things about it. Most insurance do not cover it, its expensive, it takes more than 1 session... I saw a few examples of charts on how much and how many hair they took, but im confused... do you go in there and they zap the hair root but its not guarantee itll die so u have to return for more session until that hair root dies permanently?  ???

zap each hair follicle.

Some grow back, others don't.  People rate it about a 40% growback rate that's lighter than before (I think).

I has to do with something with the hair growth cycle but I can't exactly explain that to you lol.

Someone else more informed will chime in here hopefully I'm sure :]

I was forced to undergo electrolysis every other week for 6 months. They stick a needle in and shock...every....hair..follicle and its quite painful. At the end of every session for me it was $50-75 but it may have been partially covered. If you have the money I would recommend getting laser instead. It takes a shorter amount of time and its not as painful.

Electrolysis [...] most insurance do not cover it, its expensive, it takes more than 1 session...

....and it's painful.  Yes, it's a commitment but it works, and it's permanent.

I've been undergoing laser for over two years. And now I'm going through electrolysis - my first electro treatment started with another full face and neck laser treatment because there were enough dark hairs left to make it worthwhile.

Yup. That's pretty much it in a nutshell.

As an aside: Are you Pacific Islander? I didn't have much in the way of facial hair. I'm completely hairless and I've logged less than a fifth of electro time than one of my close cohorts.

YMMV

Electrolysis takes months, if not years, and many, many sessions.
Personally, I have had laser hair removal sessions for nearly a year now, and what remains is a few dozen white hairs, which cannot be burnt by laser.
So I will finish with electrolysis. I already had a test session.
I hope to have a clear face by the time I get FFS, next year.

Yes, it takes time, patience, dedication. It hurts.

Electro is a long term project.  Figure about 6 seconds per hair, about 300-400 hairs an hour.  So for my formerly very hairy face, well lets see 8-9 laser treatments 2 1/2 to 3 years ago and electro, 4 hours a month for the same amount of time.  A lot of the darker hair started to grow back this year, but I'm just letting my electro person deal with it.  As Electro is forever.  Laser sometimes is, though many times some hair will grow back starting between 2 and 3 years.

I have about another 4-5 months to go (IE 3 years) before I will be 100% hair free on the face. Most jaw line and neck left.

If done right electro is not too bad, except for the upper lip.  I've fallen asleep a few times on te table.  Laser stings like a sonofagun, but it's very fast per session

If the hair is just on the upper lip and chin (and becuase you have dark skin) electro is probably going to be better than laser. You could always do some now and then in the future, and more cash willing, get some more if you need it.

You could always go in for an estimate, your hair might not be so dense and so not take so many sessions.
