4 inch heels are practical for walking?
« on: October 22, 2009, 10:55:31 am »
I have been busy during the past two months to go out in full dress.

Today night, finally I could have a leizure time during my business trip to a nearby city. I walked on 4-inch highheel sandals under black bootcut jeans. Also ankle high nylon socks. Actually, I wished wearing a red miniskirt, but I gave up, as I knew my wife and kids would say goodbye to me at home.

I walked for about an hour in downtown area. I crossed a local fish market. It is very safe here. I like walking and touring alone in a starange city. I was satisfied as my legs looked very sexy to my eyes. Unsolicited calls from taxi drivers and some men were annoying, but it is OK to me as they just tried to speak to me while scrutinizing my face. I could not sightsee the town as my toes became sore soon. I had to stop 3 times to sit and take some rest.

With 2.5 inch, I could walk for several hours, but > 4-inch is really difficult. I watched other women in the street. I saw just one woman wearing about 4-inch pumps. She seemed to be back from a shopping center. She proably walked as much as me, but she was smiling and looked fine. Pumps could be more comfortable than sandals.

I am just wondering in what circumstances women usually wear > 4-inch heels. Of course, for formal indoor parties... But what else? Do they wear > 4-inch heels for serious walking outdoors or at their workplaces?

Anyway, I will never wear 4 inch heels when touring a city.

Four inch heels are for cocktail parities or trips to the theater. My highest are 3 inches and even with those I bring along a pair of flats as backup shoes. Heels are so impractical, yet so fun. I do love wearing them, but I don't do it often. You're making me want some 4 inchers, though.

I recently saw a woman hiking up a very steep sidewalk dressed in a business suit and wearing pretty high heels. She seemed to be doing ok. I was in awe since I have trouble in heels on flat ground  :D

Was that me you saw on the steep sidewalk? haha. Seriously, though, I wear heels about 98% of the time. While most of my heels are 3", I have 4-5 pair that are 4". I wear them when they best match my outfit... to work, a party, clubbing... wherever. Most recently was to a fair in San Francisco, where I wore them for 6 hours, and walked about 5 miles total over the course of the event. I finally replaced them with 3" heels after 6 hours, as we were doing a lot of standing... that's when it wears on me the most.

I find 4 inches to high for me. It seems this summer in my country very high heals is in. I wear 3 inch ones but only to work or going out. I prefer flats mostly as I like to run and jump about, I tend to be a little rough on shoes.

I love heels and often shop in 5 inch plus. At two of the local malls I always see lots of women in 4 inch heels and higher. Learnig to walk in them is the key or you will stand out. Several times while walking through the mall I have had women in tall heels come up to me and say, you are working those heels girl or strut your stuff and never let anyone know you hurt! Besides for the walk your heels have to be appropiate for your outfit. Some times a tall heel just doesn't look right.

I like heels because I think flats make my feet look big, as well as heels 2" or under.  I like 3.5 for comfort... don't really have any issues with that.  Above 2" it really depends on the shoe...  I have 2 pairs of 4", one has a really comfortable fit but a little wobbly to walk in (stilletto), and the other are open toe sling backs with a chunky heel, which are less comfortable but less wobbly.  I also have one pair which is like 4.25", chunky heel, but they are slanted steeper and have less room in the toes, which means I can only wear them (sitting down!) for about 45 minutes before my toes go numb.  5 if I try walking.  But they're so beautiful that I couldn't bear to return them, and maybe some day they will actually fit...

They look like those, except the ones I got had black leather detailing instead of blue, and the sequin part is a prettier purple/pink/green design.  Those blue ones look ugly to me :(.

Recently I realized that high heel boots (thigh or ankle high) can be very comfortable even at 5-inch heels, because they can support our ankle. On the other hand, a most difficult type to wear and walk is strap-type high heel sandals or stilettos.

I'm being radical when I go to two inches, which is about once a year, for an hour at most.
