The Proper Pronunciation of Androgyne
« on: January 24, 2008, 07:06:22 am »
A man whose formal education amounts to 5th grade (a 10 year old's) gives an English lesson:

I believe if one would identify as something, one should be able to pronounce it.

The proper pronunciation of androgyne:

It's an DRAH JIN EE An DRAH JIN EE

Not an DRAH JIN or an DRAH GINE

AN DRAH JIN EE

Say it with me - AN DRAH JIN EE  An DRAH JIN EE

Then maybé it should be spelled "androgyné".

Pronunciation
AN-dro-jine

Renate

Exactly. There's an E at the end. It's not an-dro-jin. It's an-dro-jine.

I was always in advanced placement English. Not all English words follow suit. In this case, it's pronounced with the E.

Androgyny is pronounced with the ee on the end: an-DRO-ji-nee ( http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/androgyny )

Androgyne is not. It's pronounced ANDro-jyne ( http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/androgyne )
