Title: POLL: MTF Breast Growth after HRT (where pain was felt behind nipple)
Post by: Dana Lane on October 10, 2009, 05:01:21 AM
I have been blocking T for about 5 months and taking estrogen for about the last 3 months. I have noticed my nipples are changing a lot and have just started feeling pain just around the nipple air (kind of feels like it is in my peck muscle). I was under the impression that this normally doesn't start until about a year on HRT. Thanks for those that take the time to answer the poll and post comments.

Hugs
Dana

I noticed growth around 2 weeks and started to get pain behind the nipple around 2.5-3 months. I've heard the pain usually comes around 3, but age, genetics, yada yada makes a difference.

I've been wondering when I actually officially started HRT because I started them at different times. I started spiro first and noticed gland growth after 2 months, so maybe that answers the question!

Everyone's physiology is different and "your result may vary".
I noticed things starting to develop (nipples began to
swell and became sore) with in a month after starting HRT.

It was 3 months for me.  I was on estradiol for 11 weeks before starting spiro, and have been on spiro for about 9 weeks.  My endo doubled my estradiol dose after putting me on spiro, so it's hard to say if it actually took 3 whole months or if it was just a matter of increasing the dose & blocking more T.

I thought I felt something after a month on E only, but compared to how it feels now I think I was just imagining it.  So far it is mostly slight pain, unless there is pressure - then there is a lot more pain.  It was about 4 weeks after I started feeling the pain and increased sensitivity that I noticed there was actually some development and a change in shape.

No joke but in just 3 days of HRT I started feeling my nipples paining, not paining but rather sensitive and tingling.

Oops, answered this wrong.  I felt pain after 2 weeks, it has not stopped, and I have been on HRT for over 2 years.  Sometimes it hurts like hell.  (BTW this was all while being on very low dosages of pills.)

It took about three weeks for those first tingles, a couple months to really get going. There was an interesting discussion a little while back about mimicing the genetic cycle and cycling doses and it's possible benefits, it might be worth looking into.

Quotestarted to get pain around 3 weeks and I also started lactating, thats what the dr said. it was, and it stopped after a few days. any one else get that?

I kinda did once, and after a lot of anguish it was just that my estradiol level was too high, a little doseage adjustment and a month later the girls are right as rain.

I began to notice at about 3 months and that lasted about till 6 months then everything just quit,  But I have noticed changes and some slow growth since then.

I am hoping some big changes after Orchie.  Maybe?  Please! (https://www.susans.org/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.emofaces.com%2Fen%2Femoticons%2Fp%2Fpraying-emoticon.gif&hash=a58830d04a132759d37fcde91205a117c9c0f21b)

Thanks for those that are participating. So it looks like breast development should start in the first couple of months for most.

It starts yes, just for some it never goes anywhere else :p

I started to feel bud like stuff at probably like a month or two, but after that not much has really changed thus far.  I know it's a time consuming process but I figure since my body fat percentage is very low that I won't get very good results.

I spent the evening "catching up" with my ex - and at one point she goes "Honey, something clear came out of your nipple"

:o

She, er, manipulated it in a much harder way than I do by myself. And I was able to squeeze a few drops out of each. I've been on E for just under 8 weeks and spiro for around 7 months.

I started spiro on a 1/4th standard HRT dose and still noticed breast growth within around a month. First the left budded, then the right. When they budded, my nipples - which I could pull quite far off my chest, anchored down completely. Now, it's getting where I can pull them again. It seems that by being able to pull them forward and apply a sharp pressure between the nipple and bud, you get the fluid.

I'm not really sure what the hell comprises it at this point. "It tastes salty" (that's what she said. Really.) I don't know if I should encourage it or leave it alone.

Pretty much the same... round 2 weeks, i felt my areolas were quite puffy and the whole area tender... the pain behind it if pressed came at about 2 months ish. By 3 months i was begining to bud quite visibly i remember.

I know this is an old thread, but it is appropriate for me. I have been on estradiol for almost 4 weeks, and I am noticing tenderness of my nipples and my areolas are starting to get puffy. I feel what must be gland development behind them, too.
I am 43. Can this possibly be happening already?

Thanks, Paige

Yes, I remember about 1 week into hormones my nipples were getting sore (started when I was 28). About 3-4 weeks into it I remember looking down and going "OMG BOOBS! YAYYYY!!" ... they were tiny lil cones lol... aww :)

Tenderness after the first 2 weeks and felt the little ball thing on the 3rd week.

8 months HRT and I'm still an AA.
I used to think I was an A, but I measured wrong.

Could feel the bud after a month or so. Still feels the same a year in and the doc says they are still going strong. ^^
It never really "hurt" per se. Feels tight. But when I poke them/bump into something it feels sorta like a bruise.

47yo

On hormones for about 2 months now.

Moderately overweight

Itchy nips within 2 weeks

Soreness/golf-ball sized firmness behind nips, about 1 month in.

Boobs don't bounce or jiggle yet, but they do noticeably protrude from the chest. I have a "valley" between them. Small valley, but there nonetheless.  :)

Yes, they are sore like a bruise.

My experiance with boobs is the following.
Sore and throbbing by the 2nd day, by the first week I felt small lump forming, now I have puffy nips, half tennis ball sized buds. Ive noticed they shrink in the day, and swell up at night, they tend to be tender at night to, hurts just turning over as they swing about, where as during the day they dont bother me at all unless I poke em.
Umm..also if I squeeze em some clear stuff comes out the nipple and surrounding bit.
Oh if they get played with for 5 mins or so they get overly sensitive and then everything feels like sandpaper!
This is just on fin though, not full hrt.

It's been the same for me. Sore and tender nipples at about week 2 and noticeable breast buds at week 3. I've been on Estradiol (injections), Spiro, and Progesterone for a little over a month. It all actually kind of crept up on me. One day a friend was checking in on the changes and said they noticed through my shirt that they look a little different and it was true. However, they seemed bigger/more swollen last week... I'm wondering if it's a cycle thing that's trying to start because most of the women I know have their periods during the last week of the month.

For me, I started both at the same time. (Spiro and E)

My doc said transitioning involves two meds: E to increase the estrogen, and an anti-androgen to reduce T levels, so I got both. Some docs may not use this regimen, as transitioning is still very much an "art" not a "science."

But it sounds reasonable...plus I *HATE* having testosterone in my system, and I told him that!

I guess mine started growing around 3 months in. They were noticeable at 4.5 months. I will say, they grow separately and at their own pace left leads, right was slightly smaller for a while but seems to have evened out. At 7 months they fill an a cup bra. Im 21 years old, 5'9.5" and 145lbs, bmi around 21. Im a healthy weight without much fat. im pleased with them and think its possible they are slower because of my build, but probably not by much.

I try to remember, "A watched pot never boils"...seems like the girls itch, then hurt, then pause....and seemingly overnight they've grown.  A period of rest...then itching, soreness, then pause...and again they grow.

But try not to dwell on them. A peek and a daily massage (like if you're doing a breast exam) seems to help both them and the person from whom they're developing.

Greater sensitivity to my nipples by 2 weeks, and pain at 3 weeks. Flat-out noticeable growth around 5 weeks. I'm coming up on week 8 and it's quite noticeable.

I was on spiro (low dose) for a month before.

I am 50 yrs of age. I started my HRT at the end of March 2012.
In Apr-May-Jun I started on Spiro.
Jul-Aug-Sept (current) on Estrace (Estradiol).
My breast buds started about 2 months ago. In the last month alone the growth is astonishing.
My buds are the size of peach pits at this point and extremely tender.
My areolas are 50% larger than pre-hrt. My nipples are also 50% larger and overall breast tissue is developed to A cups. My small breasts literally levitate. This is truly amazing and frightening for me.
Although I have dreamed of this all my life, the reality of my new breasts is in advance of my mind adjusting to the changes. I hope my therapist sessions will help.
I have also noticed how clumsily I move my arms. It seems almost every time I move my arms across my body, I am bumping into my breasts. This is incredible as I am now learning all over again how to move and am quickly learning to be very careful.
When I sleep on my side I am acutely aware of my little breasts falling slightly under their own gravity.
Is wearing a bra while sleeping an ok thing to do? I mean so I dont bump them in my sleep?

Other obervances at my 6 month interval....
My face is changing and softening somewhat. I barely recognize myself when I walk past a mirror.
There seems to be new lines on my face. Is it just my age? or does the hormones age us?
My skin overall softened dramatically after only one month on Spiro.
Facial hair grows slower. My hands and feet seem slighly younger and my fingers slightly thinner.
My butt is slightly larger, rounder.
I am very tired all the time. I experience mild chest pains like in my heart and I am wondering if my dosage is too high?
My legs seem to be 1/3 thinner and this is truly amazing. Real girl legs, yehoo!
Erections are barely possible and only with great effort. I am still capable of orgasm but the erectile tissue is barely working and the ejaculate is no more than a thimbal full of seminal fluid.
Although I think and fantasize about sex, I have almost no desire for it at this time.
I am completely unable to have penetrative sex with my partner for the last 4 months.
I am eating way too much since I quit smoking 6 months ago and have a real problem to eat less despite seeing a dietician.
I have also become far more emotional. I cry or feel like crying over trifles....weird. It is really hard now to not get emotional. Perhaps it is the stress, anticipation of change, worry of the future and the worry of losing more friends that is causing this lack of self-esteem.
My father has almost dis-owned me and he is the only family i have left. This is the worst of it.
I have lost many friends who at first assured me of their loyalty, then quietly vanished one by one.
I have been out of work for 18 months and this is not good.
Have not legally changed my name as yet and live 50-50 m & f.
I am truly in the neutral zone.
I am sorry to digress beyond the thread topic but I am new here so please forgive me.
I hope things go better soon and thanks to all of you brave people who kindly share your progress.
-Trish

I've got a rather detailed accounting of what I experienced a few threads down, but yea, all of that is very normal. I'm just over two years and my chest is still growing, I'm an A cup and am starting to wonder if I'll ever pass this size. The ball does form from time to time and I get really sore for a few weeks then it goes away and there's slight growth. Every few months it happens.

Just past the three month mark after beginning injections and my left nipple is raised and hard whilst my right nipple is hardly doing anything, though the breasts themselves are growing much the same, is this normal?

Salena welcome to the forum.
Not to worry, as not all womens breasts develop at exactly the same rate. Also, even in Cis women, breasts can be asymmetrical. In your case it is much too early to draw any conclusions so enjoy the ride.

The "hard" part under your left nipple is probably glandular tissue forming.  That would be the lobules and milk ducts.

Your breasts will take shape with the distribution of adipose (fatty) tissue to the area.  It is not at all unusual that the grow at different rates.  My right one was always a little ahead of the left, but then in the course of six months, the left one shot ahead.

Tits.  What can I say?

Within the first month I could feel the tickling and weirdness. Things were changing for sure, it is a gradual process.  They seem to have this wierd growth cycle...

1. Pain, or itchyness
2. Snoopy nose!!!!!
3. Fills out and rounds a little
4. Repeat step 1 until end of puberty.

Really exciting every time theres a little pain/itchy it means they are growing more O-o

I've been on HRT two weeks and am beginning to notice tenderness in the breast area. My endocrinologist, who has been doing this since 1975, starts his patients on E first because it is also a T-suppressor in its own right. He gets the E level where he wants, then checks the remaining T level and adds anti-androgens (sometimes not needed) to balance it out. He adds progesterone sometime after 15-18 months to help promote breast growth, then tapers it out a few years later. But as everyone says, HRT is not an exact science so each doctor will have their own methods that work for them.

Hi Liz Marie,
When I first transitioned I was in my late 20's then early 30s. My endocrinologist first put me in Stilboestrol, but soon moved me onto estradiol and then over time to Premarin. The GIC started me on really low dasages and in those days no T Blockers. I reckon it must have been 6 months with virtually no progress except skin changes, emotional changes and of course no erections. Then I was sent abroad. I had my letters from Dr Russel Reid and the GIC and presented them to my endocrinologist in Australia. She was shocked how little growth I had achieved after so long on E. She immediately put me onto Injections of Primogyn Depot weekly in the thigh. I had to go to my GP for them. After 1 month I was already seeing breast buds, then she doubled my dose on the injections and made the injections once a fortnight. I would then feel  an euphoric hit about 2 hours safter the injection with a flood of estroigen in my system and from then onwards my breasts, hips and bottom all started to blossom with curves. My nipples became large and erect She also put me onto a 21 day cycle of Progesterone and after one month, my breasts start to lactate. She advised the use of a breast pump (both breasts) as that wiuld increase lactation an in the process build the milk producing lobuli. It rreally worked although the amount of milk I produced was very small for the effort involved, although in fact quite pleasurable. Unfortunately when I got back to the UK, my my local endocrinologist put me back onto the Premarin although a much bigger dose, but she was worried about the Progesterone so I wouldnt give a Prescription for that.18 months later I was back in Australia and luckily  my OZ endocrinologist put me back ontro the Injections which I continued until I decided to de-transition .

What I have now is A Cup - to small B- Cup breasts with large pink Aureola and very erect nipples, a rounded bottom and a slight hips.  My nipples are also very evident as they are very firm under a tight T-Shirt. But unfortunately when you stop the E you start putting weight back onto the Abdomen.

Hugs
JudithLynn

Hi all! This is my first post here.

I started taking hormones in January, and my dose was very low. After a 3 month check-up, and my health seems to be doing well, I was given a larger dose to slowly ramp up on.

I'm in my third week of the increasingly higher doses (I max out this week, no giant side effects), and I'm having the soreness! I never thought I'd be so thrilled to have tender nipples... :-)

I started my transition last April on fairly high doses of E (Pills and eventually added in a cream as well) to maintain a 200 E Level, Spiro AM & PM, and Progesterone at Bedtime.

After 1 year I am a nearly "B" cup with some pain behind my nipples, which goes away after a fairly vigorous massage. I learned from another t-girl early on not to baby them, but to wake up and vigorously massage each one, and the pain goes away instantly. Also wearing a well fitting bra has helped reduce the pain as well.

I hope this helps others.

Love Berti

I have been on and off hormones for a while and am currently on a fairly high dose of endo. prescribed and medically diagnosed T blockers and E.  Tonight (after nearly 2 weeks) my left chest hurt like hell.  I mean hurt.  Thank goodness the pain went away.  I was on hormones about 2 months ago and went off them as my nipples were standing to attention and I guess I just was shocked.  One thing is for sure for me.  Breast growth started early with me.  I am not noticing the nipples stand up this time and I am not noticing any hardness that people often talk about.

I had a T-Girl almost abuse me suggesting that it is impossible to get breast growth until after 6 months.  This certainly doesn't match my experience or research.  I guess because I am just over 40yrs old, my endo put me on high dosages of mones.  I am really curious to know if there is anyone out there who has felt something similar at around the 2 week mark?

I don't know who can say it's impossible... uncommon, maybe, but possible. I had soreness and visible growth at 5 days. :) I was and am on a low dose of E only, too.

(And the nipples being constantly hard thing lasted for months. SO annoying.)

In fact it was less than a month. Approx 3 days after administering my first patch, the tingling and sharp pain jabs started. After the first week I had recorded a quarter of an inch growth.

The first time HRT the pain started at 14 days, point at which stopped (I did something a bit stupid, but not what you think).  On the second time, pain started at 4 days, and changes in two weeks.

Anyways, I got stalled for months, and just two or three ago things started to speed up until I finally have a decent round form. Sadly, still an A on 11 months and hopping I will reach a B before the implants.

Mine started "talking" to me at 6 weeks and by ten weeks I noticed spurts of growth. Now I just finished three months and I got double a. The pain for me is dull and touching my boobs when they "talk" to me is very enjoyable for me. I guess the pain is light for me and that I enjoy pain if it's small because there is also a pleasant tingling I feel with it. In other words my boobs may be small but they feel awesome :-)

It's only been 2.5 weeks for me, but the first and 2nd week my breasts were very itchy. Now nothing. One thing that changed was my Suprefact was labeled incorrectly so i was taking 2 puffs in each nostril 2/daily instead of 1 puff each nostril twice daily. Not sure if not having as much T blocker would make a difference?

I do have a question some one else asked. I have sports bras and would like to wear them as it helped with the itchiness. Is wearing a sports bra BAD as would it halt breast growth? Or is it just bad over all to wear any type of bra in the beginning stages? Yes I am very naive and really don't know the right thing to do.

So far I have not noticed any nipple buds, nipple growth or areola growth at all in 2.5 weeks.

I am on Estrace, prometrium and suprefact daily.

Love to hear from you all.
Luv Ginger

Suprefact is LhRh agonist and at first, will increase your body's production of androgens but after 2-3 weeks, your testicles should shut down completely. Estrace slightly reduces your body's production of hormones as well and exerts some additional anti-androgenic activity intracellularly. So, give it a few weeks. Prometrium won't do much in that respect but can complement or counter some of the effects of Estrace, helping feminization or not and providing other benefits as well but the jury is still out on whether it's absolutely necessary for everyone.

Usually within 1-2 months of starting HRT, breasts should start to get sore and/or grow, with knot under the nipple slowly forming.

I don't think wearing a bra or not will affect breast development. It's a matter of personal comfort and choice. You decide. Best of luck. :)

I'm now at 3 weeks and still no ball behind my nipples. I swear my chest measurement has increased though, but measuring your self isn't the best way to do it and not very accurate.

I was told by an online friend that since I have muscular developed pecs from working out in my past, that my pec muscle will turn to fatty breast tissue is this true and possible? Right now my breasts are quite firm and hard, because of my pec muscles.

I think with time due to less androgen and more estrogen, muscle in that area will gradually atrophy while fat will accumulate.

I had pain within the first couple of weeks then nothing for a week or two then the pain came back, had hard lumps behind my nipples around the 4-5 week mark and since then pain on and off through each day, normally most sore in the afternoons and evenings

I'm taking Suprefact as my T Blocker. There was a slip up with my pharmacy in the beginning when I first started my hormones over a month ago.
The pharmacy wrote that I take double the dose and I did so for 3 weeks until I didn't understand why my dose was running out so fast. Well I spoke to my doctor and we rectified it.

But my question is.... If I continued to use double dosing my T Blocker would that help my estrogen work faster, better, harder?

Thanks.

Mine started at around the 3 month mark with the pain, although there was sensitivity before then... annnnd I've had pretty consistent pain since (at the 6.5 month mark), not that I'm complaining too much~<3

The nipples had a little going fairly early (within a couple/few weeks), but it was almost two months before something more substantial was going on.  For a "low dose" of E and nothing else, that's not too shabby.

Since January, I have had extremely large breast buds. My right had 3inch diameter and my left almost the same size.
I LOVE LOVE LOVE the perma Erect nipples. I find that so hot and such a turn on for me.

My right breast is getting the under breast sharp curve of definition, but my left breast is getting very very full and more round and much larger then right.

I do love lying on my belly and feeling my breasts and feeling my large breast buds pushing back at me. I only wish I could sleep on my belly longer. Yes they are very sore but I LOVE IT!!!

I have grown at least an inch, only if I didn't have such a thick rib cage. I am 100% sure my breasts would look so much larger.

That's been my problem is the lower portion of the ribcage makes them look that much smaller.

All I can tell you is so far. Its been 8 weeks today. My nipples are now tender and slightly enlarged. Looking at a mirror straight on its barely noticed, from the side you can see there is some growrh behind it. In general just , moobs but the nipples do stand out constantly are lots, more sensative and do hurt some. Truthfully they itch more. I have been waiting for the big change in areola size and the lump behind it to happen. Also the pain it will bring. I will say im more flacid down below than normal, but its Definatly still functional. Just not as alert, lol. One other thing, and if you have noticed this too, please let me know, I feel more exhusted now than ever and if I changes o a w j ile between doses of hrt (my job has done that to me) I feel like im getting a headache till I take my dose. Either way thats my experience so far. Hope its an insight, since I am new here, Im lookng forward to more replies.
Thanks Steph

Worried? I don't think so.  What are you taking?  (No doses)
I started Spiro about three months ago, estradiol shots 11 days ago and today my nipples are sore.

Not to get to far off subject, but how will being over weight play its part in the transitioning process? I have currently lost a bunch of weight and still dropping.

I'm not a doctor, but I think if you doubled the dose of the T blocker, its effects--blocking T--would be increased (maybe not doubled, though).

T blockers and E work together in creating a different hormone balance, and there may be a little symbiosis (E suppresses T a tiny bit, T-blockers enable E to be used more efficiently).

Talk to your doctor, both about doubling T-blockers, and how they interact. (And don't assume s/he knows the answer, imho a lot of times docs "wing it").

Everyone's physiology is different and "your result may vary".
I noticed things starting to develop (nipples began to
swell and became sore) with in a month after starting HRT.

I was the same now the pain is not as bad and the itching is getting worse (it was the first time I have ever been happy for pain and being itchy in my life) I also would like to reiterate our body's are all different and we will experience different things in different order that does not mean hrt is not working if you do not experience changes as quickly as I or anyone here has

I've heard with specific amounts that some patients were being prescribed just Estrogen + Progesterone cancelling out then need for an AA all entirely and had have much better results during their treatment options. I don't know any existing numbers to how this is all calculated, but I've heard this from a girlfriend of mine. That she knew someone that had this particular unique regime and she had very good results.

Love it xx

My nipples were tender within a week, visibly growing around the areola in not much more and I was lactating by six months, although admittedly under stimulation.
