Title: MtF transgender friendly and experienced Doctors in Dalla/Plano, TX
Post by: amandax on March 28, 2010, 12:05:36 AM
I will move to Plano, TX in about two weeks. I need to get a new primary doctor in Dallas/Plano area. I just wonder if some one can recommend some doctors in Dallas (close to Plano will be preferred) who have experience with MtF transgender.

Also I am on injection Hormone, twice per month, and like to find a transgender friendly clinic in Dallas/Plano area can do the injection for me since I don't know how and don't dare to do self-injection. Any recommendation?

Appreciate for your help.

I went through this a couple of years ago in the same area. I found one of the very best doctors for this in the area.  If you have any problems finding someone, PM me and I'll give you the info.  You'll have to see whether she takes your insurance, if that's a concern.

The only thing I don't like is I have to pay the $25 co-pay in cash up front.  But, she's awesome, and makes it soooo much easier than other experiences I've had over the past 20 years.

The Resource Center of Dallas also has (or had?) a free clinic they sponsor one night per month you can go to, if money is an issue.  You'll have to call them for that, as I never went to it.

I don't know if either of these will do injections for you.  I would think if you really need the iinjections done, then the Resource Center Clinic would be the best bet.  Monthly Office visits to my doctor would likely be too expensive.  I don't see why you can't do them yourself or switch to pills.  I did them myself for a long time and then switched to pills.  You have to take controll of this; it's for life.

I say go to your doctor for a referal firstly, you shouldnt rush your transitioning, you have to learn how to live your life as a woman 100% before they give you any hormones.

I don't know of any doctor in the USA who is going to put their license at risk by prescribing hormones for you without the letter.

You shouldn't be too concerned about the expense of counseling.  Most gender therapists I've ever known offer a sliding scale and group counseling options.  When I transitioned almost 20 years ago, I went to monthly group for $10 per month.  I also had to get a personal session with another doctor who, based on the group sessions and the personal session, wrote the letter.  I think there might have been a psych test too.  But I think you can get the letter for $150 or so in about 3 months if you find a good group that wants to help.  I will PM the contact info to you for GEAR here in Dallas.  They will be able to give you a referral, hopefully to someone inexpensive.  They should also be able to refer you to physicians.  I suggest you call them and ask what is the least expensive way to do this in the Dallas area.

Hey Jessica, I live just outside of Dallas and have been researching some different options in the Dallas area. My GP is in Richardson and she is very trans-friendly and provides my HRT but I am looking at seeing someone who is a lot more knowledgeable in HRT to manage that part. I just found out that there is a MtF physician in the North Garland / Plano area that specializes in HRT. If you want to check her out, here is her info.

Dr. Courtney Ridley

I contacted Dr. Ridley's office and was told that they were not accepting New patents at this time..
I am currently seeing Dr. Wright, and am not happy with her.  Is there anyone else besides RCD?
Thanks in advance for any help!
