I am 26 and already I have a horribly aging face. The skin is rough, it's got pimples and break outs all over it, facial hair even around my eyes. It's so old looking and tired. There has to be something I can do about it. When I was on estradiol once before, I noticed it began to make me look like the younger boy that I looked like before and then it became an older-looking woman, which was strange. What have you experienced with the estrogen?
Yep. That's one of the main reasons many FTM's literally look like boys although they are in their twenties.
It does smooth and clear your face if you have acne, etc. which could give the appearance of a younger, more refreshed face.
It also narrows the pores which can give a more youthful appearance.
I also noticed the fine lines around my eyes and the wrinkles on my eyelids diminshinig in the two years that I have been on estrogen. I don't think it is going to change much more, but it did take ten years or at least five years off my face.

I think it does! So look forward to it!
Chin up!

hooray!! ;D
To be honest, male androgens are really what's responsible for most types of aging (any times that a natal female suffers from large features or bad skin as she ages, it's usually because she's producing too much male hormones), and it's my opinion that even any straight male who cares about looking young should find a way to hormonally stop a bit of the aging process - to many a folk, it'd be very worth even giving up fertility. However, I believe there's options out there just to lower testosterone and androgens, not to totally cut them off.
The Bible says about sex that a man should stick to the tricklings of his own well.
Active sex life keeps a man fit and healthy.
MtFs know estrogen makes us look great and younger.
Vaginas also have estrogen.
Go figure out why some sexy older guys look great and why miserable couch potatoes die young and aged.
I'm in my 6th month now.
For the first 5 months I didn't notice any changes, but this last month has caused a small degree of softening and my skin tone is slightly more even.
The time it takes to work differs for people, but you will get results eventually. I definitely look younger Dec 2011 than I did Dec 2010.
Make your own judgement, when my avatarphoto was taken, I was 56 years old.
People are always thinking I'm a lot younger.
These are the results of 30 years of hormones.
Most folks don't believe I'm 50 :) Most tend to guess early to mid 30's... I got carded at the store today  Not sure if it's the HRT or not, but I'll take it ;D
I lost ten years. So instead of celebrating my 28th anniversary of 21st birthday :-) I look like I'm celebrating my 18th anniversary of 21st birthday ;)
Didn't for me. But then I already looked 10 years below my age, so thankfully it didn't get any worse. I still regularly get asked where I go to school... meaning high school. I'm a uni graduate FFS!

No sorry, that's just an avatar :) I haven't posted a pic. of myself for over a year now... Maybe someday I'll post one again, but I haven't felt comfortable about it for awhile
Getting onto hormones has made my skin softer, that's for sure, but the main reason I look younger is because as soon as I went on hormones, I relaxed like crazy :).

Errr... no. Just no.
That's not the reason why if anything it would be the regular excersize but I'm not convinced what you discribe is true.
It's made my face alot tighter, that and dropping alot of weight too. I am in my mid 30s, people say I look like I'm in my early 20s. 8) I look at older pictures of me (yuk) and I definitely look younger to myself.
Since starting HRT, I have got a lot of "you dont look 41". For me, I'd definately say it has made me look much younger!
YAAAAAAY!!!!
This is my favorite thread.
def yes. Estrogen can make you look younger, Since taking estrogen, i have went from looking my age to looking 23. I am almost 40.
People at work are shocked to hear that I am almost 40. And yes, i have to admit, it feels good.
I know many MtFs who seem to look young for their age - Obviously estrogen feminises the face which takes some years off, but in theory, as women tend to have more 'youthful' features it should make you just look your age as a woman, but I am often surprised by the age of many MtFs. I wonder if there's any scientific reason why, based on the interaction of hormones...
As for me, I always looked young for my age as a boy, but now I actually look my age as a woman, although I look younger than when I first started transitioning. However, I'm hoping I'll look this way for a long time and look young for my age eventually!
^ I know what you mean. I'm the same. I look my age as a woman.
but all hormones are growth hormones so naturally having the hormones of a 20 year old girl in an older person should make them a little younger. Maybe? It's just my understanding of it.
I'm starting my hrt next months so I hope so.
I've always noticed when looking through peoples transition videos/timelines how they seem to drop several years of age. Glad to hear it first hand.
At my age it does. I have some hair color returning. Cis women do take HRT at my age to keep looking young and keep their body calcium in check. My youngest sister does not take HRT for the risks involved. She has osteoporosis.

I think oestrogen does make you look younger. However, judging by the genetic women I see each day, once the oestrogen levels start to decline the face changes can often be disagreeable. A lot of the women here in west central Scotland in their late 20s have that over-boiled look. Once into their late 30s early forties many women here have a permanent sarcastic, judgemental look about them. They look a bit weather-beaten, whiskery and vinegary.
It is important to remember that genetic female's skin is thinner all over including the face than men's skin is. When they are young and oestrogen levels are high women look youthful and glowing. Once their oestrogen level starts to drop their thin facial skin turns against them and wrinkles and blemishes appear.
I get told I look like a teenager and i'm 24 years old.
I can't even get served alcohol at a bar or club without getting carded! :D
I feel like I've lost a few years when I look in the mirror. I think it has to do with increased fat on your face. And your eyes tend to open up.
To answer your question, yes it does, Im now 54 but Im always getting tolded I only look about 40, I get complements sometimes from other women on how soft silky and smooth my skin is, whats the secret lol, its the magic of estrogen, my skin is now very soft after years and years on estrogen, when I look in the mirror instead of seeing an ugly ageing guy past 50, I see a very confident attractive woman, a nice 40 thank you.
Estrogen has turned me into the woman I am today.

I think I look a lot younger. I was always old looking for my age, I'm 52 now and look younger than I did 10 years ago.
Before HRT:

I don't know if I look younger. I'll let you judge ^_^
Perhaps finally starting down the road towards becoming you, unclenches the mind and this mental relaxation combined with a great increase in happiness causes you to automatically start eating and sleeping better and this dropping of tension shows itself clearly in the face and eyes?
I had no end of comments regarding me looking younger, "what's your secret?" I didn't share it with them. I don't think any of them would have followed my path regardless of the benefit of appearing younger. Beard removal also goes some way towards enhancing this effect....
I have seen facial hair being removed helps a lot
Wow.... Im happy to hear that estrogen can make look younger. I dont need any anti aging supplements..
I'm 51 and I get constantly told I look like i'm in my 30's or 40's; no one believes i'm 51. Occasionally I get an estimate a lot younger than that. My mom told me that I look like a little boy (before I was out to her)
In my case: NO
I'm always looked younger ... but E2 makes you feel your age more.
That would sure be nice. I just completed a face & neck lift along with eye lid surgery. My face looks 15-20 younger for sure. I'll be so gad when I finally heal so I can use some makeup, mascara.............
Since taking enough estrogen again and progesterone which relaxes me, I look about 10-15 yrs younger. It's truly amazing. And my skin/hair is soft. :)
Have been told I look 10 to 15 years younger - E is the elixir of youth.
I always looked a lot younger than my actual age and getting on Estrogen only helped make me look even younger. so that's good.
I think I look the same age as before but I have seen people who seem to appear 10 years younger than they are.
I hope that never happens to me, I dont wanna look like a kid! Lol
I'm inclined to agree, yes, it does.
Having been on testosterone for four years, my baby-face has changed - slight wrinkles under my eyes and wrinkles on my forehead if I raise my eyebrows even just a little. Pre-T, that never happened - otherwise I would've noticed it. I'm very vain  I look forward to being on estrogen again, maintaining the youthful look is crucial for me in order to feel comfortable in my body.
I'm 48, I'm told by some deluded souls that I could pass for early 30s...but I think they're just being kind! ::)
That's what I always thought, people were just being kind. But as I see myself now vs. a few years ago, yes, I definitely look much younger than my age. I'm 49 and will be 50 this coming Halloween, however many people tell me I look mid 30's even with those ugly facial scars from my accident in 91. Some say even younger. My Avatar photo is somewhat recent (about 2 weeks ago) and while I am holding my eyes open a bit for the expression (this photo was taken while joking around with a friend) giving me forehead creases I don't normally have them. I've been on hrt now both E and anti-androgens for a little over 6 months. Here's me sands makeup just after getting up in the morning:

You can be the judges. Do I look 49?
I pretty much know the answer, so I believe yes, to some extent, E and especially the anti-androgens do make you look somewhat younger than you actually are in most cases.
Ally :icon_flower:
I've had many say I look like in my mid 20s though I'm pushing close to 40.
it should make you look younger for two reasons one the skin changes and two because estrogen causes fat redistribution in the face which should make you look much younger because that's how dermatologists and plastic surgeons make people look younger. Besides tightening skin they add volume with fillers, fat or cheek implants. Plus hrt causes hair to grow back which is also youthful!
Ohhh so I have some aging to look forward to, since I'm FtM? :D
GOOD.
Pre-HRT, I'm almost 30 and I keep getting mistaken for a teenager.
I'm 45 and I've been on estrogen for nearly six months. I have noticed that I am starting to look younger. I'm not sure how much of that is due to the estrogen and how much is due to the fact that I quit smoking cigarettes and no longer drink 10-12 shots of bourbon a night.

Allisonsteph, you just named the 2 most common causes of pre-mature aging.
Add excessive sun to that and you can look like 70 when you are 40!
Femininity is soft skin, rounded edges, and general youth. Sounds like I described children of the world, and that's kinda the point. Women and their beauty are celebrated for their youthful appearance while men are attractive because of their gruff strength.
Hormones change a ton. FTMs will get that roughness and MTFs will get that softness.
