Title: Colorado Schools Blatently Ignore Trans-Rights Bathroom Law
Post by: GinaDouglas on March 13, 2013, 12:32:29 AM
Two Colorado school districts have now blatantly ignored clear state law, and denied transgender students their right to use the restroom that fits their gender identity.  The second case is detailed here: http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2013/03/08/coy-mathis-case-district-_n_2838235.html (http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2013/03/08/coy-mathis-case-district-_n_2838235.html)

Coy Mathis, a 6 year-old transgender girl has been banned from using the girl's bathroom in her Colorado Springs school because of problems that might happen in the future.  Previously, a high school girl in Fort Collins was suspended for legally using her school's restroom, but she chose to transfer schools rather than fight.

The media is reporting this like it's a controversy, but Colorado Law is crystal clear.  In places of public accommodation, a person must be allowed to use the facility that matches their innate sense of gender-identity, and schools are specifically listed as places of public accommodation.

Here is my published letter-to-the-editor of our local paper on this topic:
