Title: Taking longer to pee lately
Post by: Valeriedances on January 23, 2011, 09:05:19 AM
I've noticed that for the past few weeks it is taking much longer for me to finish peeing than it used to. People come and go from the bathroom finishing their business while I sit continuing to pee. it takes several minutes now each time. The stream is much less, maybe a third of what it used to be. I'm beginning to wonder if I may have a blockage.

Has anyone else experienced this and have any remedy?

Maybe that's why you are not squirting--JUST KIDDING!!!!  Why not try drinking a lot of water and holding it for a while.  Then try urinating to see if the stream changes--just a thought.

I have no idea.

Does it seem that the reduction is right at the opening or deeper inside?
Have you tried using a little mirror and seeing?
Does the stream exit like it used to?
Can you empty completely without applying any force.

It could even be BPH (benign prostatic hyperplasia) (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Benign_prostatic_hyperplasia).

If you ever get to the stage where you can't pee, it's obviously time for a trip to the ER.

It takes a really long time to pee (minutes and minutes). It is annoying more than anything and worrisome since it doesnt seem normal.

Probably caused by the antidepressant.  If you go to this page and scroll about halfway down, there is a list of antidepressants and their most common side effects.  A delay in urination is one of them

Valerie.

The main things to watch for with urine are, smell, does it smell unusual, repeatedly. It's perfectly normal, now and again, to pass strong uring. But it should only be now and again.

Colour. Is it between a little yellow and almost clear? It's perfectly normal to pass something a bit strong or really clear, now and again.

Flow. When it flows, if there is a blockage developing, then you will feel almost like its being held back. That feeling you get when your bladder is saying it's full, you will get that while urinating.

If it isn't uncomfortable then it's OK.

One other thing. If you are on any nutrient suppliment, that will affect the colour and consistance of your urine. Perfectly normal.

Some people take a while to go. Women are generally like this, mainly because it takes them so much longer. They need to find a clean toilet, men can do it against a tree, They need to remove a lot more clothing, they tend to be quite particular about replacing it after.

Consequently, women often hold it in for longer. Their bladders have more in them and they take longer to empty

But you need to be drinking a lot more water. Coffe is OK, but not enough. The easiest way to do this is to get a decent sized glass of water and take it to bed. I always take a 500ml glass of water with me.

Don't try to use your pelvic muscles to force it. No-one should do this, though most of us do, now and again.

Lol, thats hilarious. I'm sure that must be it. No wonder I cant do that.

I am drinking more coffee than water. Need to give your suggestion a try. The only other difference is I began taking an anti-depressant this month.

I know this is totally off-topic but i am in love with your hair color. I've been trying to achieve that "Rachel" blonde for forever, very pretty and natural!

I strongly suspect that this is age related - therefore the remedy is to get younger  :P
See your doctor and get a proper diagnoses.

I had the same problem after GRS in Montreal. I also had problems with recurring UTI's.

The cause was urethral stenosis, which was resolved through urethral dilation by a urologist. The stenosis resulted in incomplete drainage of urine which caused the UTI's.

I'd suggest an appointment with a urologist; if there is a problem, it isn't going to get better by itself, and if there ISN'T a problem, the peace of mind will be worth any inconvenience.
