[2] School & Bullies

(1/1)

Nikki:
So , School is one of the best things in my life. I love school like why not ? because you have to learn!
well not everyone likes to learn but who doesn't like to see their friends?
anyways there's a dark side of school that some people have not been there or seen it
bullies are everywhere at work at school at home , well I have these kid these ''friend''
in one of my classes that he loves to touch me and I get annoyed when they do stuff sitting in my back
So I always turn around and tell him stop , and he just laugh with his friends.
well he does these with a girl there too.
so that girl got tired and told the teacher and teacher said that if he keeps it on there going to call the cops
on him , and I don't want that to happen because I know hes just stupid.
anyways I guess I have a big heart and feel bad for the kid.

Thank you for reading Today's Blog.

I was bullied in school back in the 60's and early 70's.   We had to bear the brunt of bullying.  The cops were called in very rarely, usually if a weapon such as a knife was present.   I had only one gun incident in 1970 when a girl came to my high school and committed suicide in one of the girls' lavatories with a tiny purse Derringer.  These guns were tiny and not the larger "Saturday night special" cheapies sold back then, the wee guns made a pop that would sound like a popping paper lunch bag in the space of that lavatory.  We had found about it in the next newspaper what had happened in a small one paragraph blurb.  No stress teams at the schools then, no cops stationed there either.  The Vice Principal ruled with an iron hand.

Your story really pissed me off (not with you, but with the school).

I think it's really lazy of the school to say they're going to call the cops on him - like they're afraid to dole out their own discipline. And threatening to call the cops is over-extreme and just makes the other kids side with the bully (and it sounds like you're doing that too), and so he doesn't have to face the consequences of his actions.

I don't think you should just sit there and let him get the message that it's okay for him to get away with this behaviour, and I don't think calling the cops is the answer either - I think the school should handle their own discipline more appropriately. If I were you, I'd talk it over with a school counsellor.
