Going back to work after FFS.
« on: October 20, 2011, 01:29:22 pm »
This is something that I've been thinking about lately. Not because I'm overly concerned, but it's just something I feel like writing about.

My FFS is scheduled for January. The company I work for approved my request for 3 weeks off. I mentioned I was having surgery but no details were given. I haven't discussed my gender identity with them although I wouldn't be surprised if they found out when they did a background check before hiring me.

The office is full of women who love to gossip, trash talk, etc. There is new drama every single day that passes by. I keep to myself and just do my work. I'm only interested in receiving my check every two weeks.

The type of women that work here are the ones who make a HUUUUUGE deal out of anything. For example, I always wear my hair out. One day, I decided to pull my hair back into a ponytail. Everyone kept saying, "OMG! You got your hair in a ponytail! It looks so cute!" Every change I make to my appearance, no matter how subtle it may be, people love to make a big deal. This is not only with me but with everybody.

So, I can just imagine how people will react when I return with a new face. I'm really not looking forward to it. But I'll be okay. I know how to defend myself when I need to.

Til next time,
Jen

Women tend to gossip and small talk. They also tend to notice small changes in appearance.

Jen, is your avatar you? If so, I see 100% girl in that photo.

That is true but I've never seen people over exaggerate things like these do. It's annoying as hell!

Yes, that's me. Thanks for the compliment. :)

You'll be fine, you know more of what you need to do than others. People in the office always talk, just square everything with HR all will be well.

I definitely do. That's why I'm getting it done. And, at most, it'll be 20 grand including travel, hotel, etc. Just the thought of adding another 15 grand to that makes me want to faint.

Here, people will do a triple take and them saying something about it is already written on stone. Seriously. And I doubt it'd be old news after a day. A year, maybe. Yeah, It's that bad. Or maybe I'm the exaggerator. LOL.

Hey hon, girls will be girls!
Love chatting, hey it's fun :-) makes a boring job pass more easily, etc.

My advice, do not show too much 'attitude' lest they'd get mean.

As for you face --- SO WHAT?!
They'd be rather jealous not to have had that 'face lift, nose job, etc.' you had. So be kind to them, play it down and don't - I say it again, get into 'attitude'. Women like that HATE what they'd call 'snobbish' behaviour.

Just have a good story why you wanted it --- to please your boy friend, lover, what ever be a good one. Most boob jobs are initiated by male partners in my experience. We all want to look our best, it's in our DNA :-)

That's my 2 cents,
Axelle

Oh, these people LOOOOOVE the drama. I'll try not to bring out the 'tude in me though unless they ask for it.

Honestly, there is so much negativity here that I don't initiate a conversation with someone unless it's work related. So, there won't be any stories. There will just be a, "Id prefer not to talk about it". And that's if they ask questions nicely. ;D

Jen,

Do you think 3 weeks will be enough time? You'll need to sleep with your head eleveated for a couple of months to reduce the swelling. This may sound funny...but consider using a "bean bag chair", put it in bed and contour it along with your pillow(s) to actually elevate your body from the waist up rather using several pillows to just raise your head from the neck up. Also, consider an inflatable floating pool chair. These are simple and rather cheap alternatives to a hospital bed or reclining chair.

Having cared for patients post head, neck and shoulder surgery,  its better to raise the body from the waist rather than the neck, more comfortable too!

So I came back to check on this thread and I just HAD to say the following,

Jen, I love how you reply to everyone. Like seriously.
Some people never write back, they just get the info they want/need and that's that.
No thank you, nothing.

You actually take the time to reply and what not.
I think that's nice of you.

By the way glad I could make you giggle!

And yeah, that's all I wanted to say (:

Thank you SJ for the tips. I'm hoping 3 weeks will be enough for the bruising to go away. I'm aware I'm more than likely still going to be swollen but since I work in an office just answering phones all day I should be fine. If at 3 weeks I'm still battered and bruised, I'll just take an extra week off. Thanks again. :)

I really dunno what FFS you're going to do, you ALREADY look like a woman. Unless you mean a normal 'cosmetic surgery' like normal women do to enhance something on their face.
