Last night was a bad night of epic proportions. It just sucked in general. I was sad for no reason...Well okay maybe the trans thing had something to do with it lol The whole "life is unfair" thing got to me. And it isn't even being trans. It's just that legally, things won't be easy for me because of where I was born and where I live, Trans guys still aren't allowed to get married.
On top of that, my mom kept calling me "her" and "she" and it's making me a little sad. I haven't told her about being sure about the trans thing since I told her to forget about it a while ago. So I do realize that's my fault. Then I heard her on the phone with a family member and she called my partner my friend. That pretty much just pissed me off. She isn't my friend. She is so much more than that and it's like every single part of me is being invalidated.

Well, my girl was trying to cheer me up and she did and we started talking about kids and what not. And then the cherry on top. She wants to name our baby, if female, after her mother...She said the middle name could be my mother's name and it would be really cute. Well...I just don't like the idea at all. At its core it's a simple jealousy issue because why should my mom's name be second! lol Very silly but it's one of the thing that is bothering me. And the second, and I guess most important issue is that her mother just rubs me the wrong way sometimes...I don't hate the woman but sometimes her actions just piss me off! And that got my partner sad and it's just like everything was going wrong. -_- I told her if she wants to name something after her mom, I will get her a puppy...Apparently that wasn't the right thing to say...I was half joking and half not thinking about the words coming out of my mouth....

Yeah, umm, here's a dog, name it after your mom... I can kinda see how that may have gone down like a fart in an elevator.

As for the kid, maybe emphasise how a name could be one you choose together. Something between the two of you, rather than being named after anyone outside your partnership. A name that means something to both of you, and is significant in that regard, rather than trying to honor someone else.

lol the dog comment didn't bother her that much. It just wasn't met with open arms. And yeah I know. Eh, she will get over it. I know one of the things I look forward to the most is just laying in bed with her looking at baby names!

My dad currently has dogs sharing names with his granddad Pappy and his sister Sally...  Which his sister thinks is weird for some reason.  But it's all good, because as he says over and over, they're actually named after Pappy Boyington and Sally Ride.  Oh, and he named me after a dog his sister Sally had.

I've never understood the whole thing about naming kids after someone in the family. It's a new life that should have its own name and path and all that. Middle name I could accept, but not the first.

It's also a bit like, "oh your mother doesn't understand you? Lets name our kid after our mothers and all will be fine". Sorry if that offends, but I really don't get this.

I laughed so hard when I read that. It definitely gives me an idea that might get me killed... Anyway, I've never been a fan of naming kids after anyone, even in middle name. In my family, I have my brother and like three cousins (I lost count) named Daniel, Two cousins named Betsy, and like 6 aunts named Maria. Keep in mind all my cousins are first cousins and my aunts are all eachother's sisters. My mother (their sister) is also named Maria, by the way @_@. The whole situation is just crazy and confusing. This is partially why I'm only breeding once and naming my kid something ridiculous like Ganondorf, they won't copy @_@.

Other than converting to a religion that doesn't allow you to name a kid after someone who is still living, I got no advice XP. Maybe tell her that you'd rather name your kids a name you can both choose? I'm just gonna shut up because I got nothing good to say XP.

Look at it this way, at least the name will be applied to someone you unconditionally love, and you can say "Mother In Law's name just poop herself."

Is there a particular reason she wants to name your daughter after her mom? If it is a very strong reason you might want to take it into consideration.  I am one of the people that believe names tell you a lot about someone.  I know it seems silly, but there seems to be a pattern to names and personality traits.  Anyway, if you really hate her mothers name, you might be able to use that kind of reasoning to get her to change her mind.  Just a thought.

Perhaps request that the first name be unique, but both mom's names could be middle names.
