What happens if you stop taking hormones?
« on: June 24, 2012, 06:15:38 pm »
Sorry if this question has been asked already but I was just really curious. Will there be any complications? If you lost the ability to stay erect will it stay that way? Or will you regain the ability? If you achieved a feminine body will the form go back to the masculine way it was before?

Sorry, boobs are irreversible, unless you appeal to the knife. The rest, well, yes you will get you erections back, but chances are you will be sterile Fat will redistribute, hair body will reappear, muscle mass will increase, skin will get thicker.

Whatever you do, do not vacillate (on and off, on and off, etc) with the HRT.  This will cause complications later with your body and endocrine system.  There is a possibility of "bronzing" of the skin, a condition that causes an unhealthy looking tan appearance with roughness.  It differs with infertility.  The longer on HRT, the more likely you are infertile if you decide to reverse this process.  This differs with each person.  Boobs are permanent as with the lower voice in FtMs.

Just courious, how long have you been on and why are you considering stopping?
Its true this is not something you experiment with - it's all in or nothing.

Be true to yourself, even if no one else will...

I agree, if you don't want to follow this path then get off immediately!  But if you are undecided think about speaking with somebody about it.

Getting off E can effect you in more ways than physically turning back into a guy. There will be a temporary emotional impact with the change in hormonal balance~ as well as a longer lasting one if you are a woman as going back to testosterone balance will no longer feel natural!

I was on and off HRT twice in my early 20's. Both time low dose and "un-monitored"  ;)  Both times I eventually had ED and maybe a little more breast growth. Within a few weeks of stopping back then the ED was no longer an issue. The fuller top, well.....

Now many years later I was back on them again, for much longer then in the past. During a major "WTF am I doing?" episode I stopped, cold turkey. I whole heartedly DO NOT recommend this. Talk about crash and burn as first the greasy skin, and the stink of being a guy came upon me. The rest was no party either. If the initial WTF am I doing was bad enough, the WTF am I doing about the WTF what am I doing was far far worse.

Would you be able to elaborate on the complications? Thanks!

It would cause premature aging appearance and possible increase of cancer of the breasts and the reproductive glands you did not get removed.  There are still undetermined problems becoming known as the ones who vacillate their HRT usage are now aging and the complications become more known.  Also there are a lack of those who come forward due to privacy sake.  Those who got an orchie or hysterectomy seem to be less effected.
Those FtM may not have to be on T any longer who had a hysterectomy with their bottom surgery, except to keep up muscle mass.
Those MtF who had an orchie with or without an SRS will still have to go on a smaller dose of HRT or the effects similar to menopause may occur.  My sister who is past menopause, is growing a beard and has to shave due to the drop in the estrogen in her system and the normal small amounts of T excreted by the adreanal glands which is normal in both sexes.
