Thanks M. Actually, the problem is that my first name has to start with an 'N'. I'm like married to the letter 'N'. My girly name starts with it and I'm just in love with that letter. That's why Joe might be okay as a middle name.

Ok I just went through a baby boys names N list and must say I like Nero the best.

Me too. But that's not exactly a viable name option is it? Nobody was named that back in the day.

I like Nathan because of Nathan Hale.

He's the school teacher turned spy who said "I only regret that I have but one life to give my country."

And, he was apparently a very pretty man. Take a look at this statue.

I like Nicholas or Nikolai (depends on your ancestry, perhaps) and Nathanael or Nathaniel. I also like Niles...did anyone suggest that?...but it might be a bit fey. Nero is so cool, but, yes, a bit unusual.

How about a Nordic or Germanic name that starts with N? Niels? Then you can be Bohr-ing. (I know, argh, and you're never boring.)

Have you thought of something last-name-y, something that is usually a surname but that stands out as a given name? That could be cool...

I like Nathan and Nathaniel quite well.  I've known both a Nolan and a Norbert. Going with the kings and rulers theme:  How about Napoleon?  Napoleon Joe.  I kinda like it.  ;D

Nash, Naylor, Neander, Neil, Nelson, Nestor, Nevan ... *reading from baby name book*  Hmmm ... "Nimrod" probably wouldn't be the best choice...  Noah, Noam, Nereus, Nels, Niall.
And the world will be better for this,
That one man, scorned and covered with scars,
Still strove with his last ounce of courage,
To reach the unreachable star.

lol I came across that too. I just have to wonder when that name was actually popular enough to be noted. :P

Neander, huh? That really works if you're from the valley...FESTIVAL! FESTIVAL!

Okay, I went through the "N" section of a few name sites... and if you want my opinion, Nero, I'd go with Neal. It's a tough enough letter to find a good name for, considering the vast majority of english-speaking guys with an "N" name are named Nicholas or some form of it... but I really think Neal is a good choice. Not overly masculine, fairly original though simple... that's my opinion.

The others I thought might work were Noah, Nico, or Noel. But I definitely wouldn't go with Nero. Yeah, it might fit you, but this is coming from someone who's been talking to you as that for 3 years... and everyone else on susans knows you as it. In the real world, I don't imagine it would really fly.

Hi Nero -- or whoever you are!

I just saw this thread because I saw another post in your blog, so I'm just getting around to seeing this.

For 'N' names, yeah, it's a little thin. But I really like Nate (as short for either Nathan or Nathaniel, though the latter seems, well, a bit too French somewhow). And I really like Neal as well - but only if it's spelled that way, like Neal Cassady. I suppose Neil would be okay if you insist (Niel is just wrong, unless you go Scandinavial and make it Niels), but I either think astronaut or Neil Patrick Harris (or Danish physicist).

My decision, like Julie's, was largely (though not entirely) based on some women I knew in the past whom I admired and whose company I enjoyed. Mostly it just seemed right, though only a little bit right at first. It took a while to take hold in my own mind. Actually, Susan's was part of that.

Have you decided yet? It seems like it's about time to do so.

~Alyssa

p.s. Osiris -- Nimrod had several millenia of popularity as a pretty badass name. It predates even Nero in badassitude by a few thousand years -- in fact it goes back almost as far as Osiris. But I guess it doesn't have quite the connotation it once did. Oh well.

LOL Alyssa... I was thinking of Neal Cassady when I suggested the name. I chose my own middle name, Dean, partly due to Dean Moriarty, Neal Cassady's character in On the Road. Methinks Nero needs to say something. But I assume he's a bit preoccupied with his newly flat chest.

I like Nathan and Nathaniel quite well.

Nathaniel Joseph.  It has a strong sound to the name - dare i suggest a heroic sound to it.

Go say it a hundred times and see if you like it.  Personally, I think it has potential.

Not being prevy to your family name, I kinda agree with Shauna.  Except Nathaniel Scott.  Just like the sound of it.

Hiya Nero, after reading the original post where you said that your name was taken, it was somebody elses, I figured I could help. You see, I have an old name that is on a shelf and feeling lonely. I dont need it any more. He was a good guy, (well I say so anyhoo). As I read on, it actually does fit your requirements. But then I saw it had been suggested and you didnt seem so keen on it. I guess I am still saying this, just on the off chance that you could find a home for it. In nearly 5 years on forums I have never said it, but I cant offer it to you without, so "gulp" Its......... Neil. It was fun for a while, it needs a home........Good luck with your seach.  ;)

Yes, I still think Neal/Neil is perfect. Come on, Nero, update us on this whole name search already!
