Me A Lead Singer In A T-Girl Rock Band???

I auditioned tonight with an all T-Girl rock band.  They were looking for a bass player and in conversation with the rhythm guitarist I mentioned, jokingly, that I played bass in a band... when I was in 8th grade!  Okay, so I'm 21, 35, 42, 49, okay 55 now and it's been a while.  I told them upfront all I can really offer is vocals and I'm limited at that.  I can't hit high notes but neither can Lurch.

So they put a bass guitar in my hand and I'm like "What?"  I looked at the girl who plays the thing like she was born with it in her hands and said, "The last time I picked up a bass guitar was in 1965."  I think they got it then.

So they start jamming and open it to me to sing.  A few of the songs were tough to hit certain notes but I'm just coming off a cold.  No matter, I was less than impressed with myself.  But they seemed pretty positive.  

I had to leave but it seemed they all were for me becoming part of the band.

We're scheduled to jam this weekend.

The correct word would be bassist.  Yes, a bassist avatar.

I envy you.  I'd love to play in a band.  I truly miss it.  And I've spent a small fortune on a few basses lately.  I think that I'm going to learn how to play the darned thing now... after pretending to do so in a band for 8 years going bum, bum, bum, da bum, bum, bum.  I never really learned to do much else, for we were mostly a vocal group.  And I sang.  I miss that greatly too.

We had our dress rehersal tonight for Saturdays Christmas concert.  We are doing Peter and the Wolf and Leopold Mozart's toy symphony among other pieces.  It's either going to be our best concert, or one of the worst.  I can't figure out why every group I play in has an oboist that can't play that disgusting squawky stick.  The toy symphony should be fun... we are going to invite kids to play the toy instruments along with us.  Yes, there are parts for them.  We'll have people who actually read music help them play at the right times.  It is noisy fun.

Well Rock on Julie  :D   HOw can you put an insturment down... atleast with out picking up another?  but *Shrugs*  Anyways is this a cover band, or are you all going to do origonals?  Are you in need of a hyper fast drummer chick that can sing and play at the same time?  (Im going to be looking for a new band come feburary)

Anyways good luck with your project and I really hope you enjoy it.... music is one of those rare gifts that can keep giveing for a lifetime.... so long as its not taken forgranted or forsaken by its owner or there heart  :D

Well, I put the instrument down not by choice.  I had to leave the band because I was going away for high school.  Family tradition - send son to same school dad went to, Jesuits, high academics, discipline, and he will become a success.  So when the end of the summer came I had to say goodbye.  When I came home for Christmas I found my bass guitar and amp had been sold.  I spent everything I had to buy them and now they were gone.  I was pretty devastated.

The band does mostly covers and and a few originals.  They have a very good drummer but she's not a 'hyper fast drummer chick' and she can't sing, at all, even though she tries.  I'd love to hear you play and sing!  Even though I haven't pursued learning an instrument I have always worked on the instrument called the voice.  I knew no one could sell that while I was away at school.

Thanks for the well wishes Lynn.  I love music!  If it wasn't in my life I may not be here now.

I have to admit I am just a little bit jealous of you!

As a teenager I really wanted to be able sing in a band, and was prevented from doing so only by my complete inability to sing lol

I skirted with playing the guitar and keyboards but was realistic enough to admit that as much as I love music, I was not blessed with huge amounts of musical ability.

A few years ago I discovered a drummer who was trying to set himself up as a teacher in the town I lived, and he was offering lessons pretty cheaply to get himself up and running. I decided to give it a go, and finally discovered my musical vocation - 20 years too late lol
