Drugs - something like July or August 1996

 Alcohol - 2/2/1999

 Smoking - about July 2000

Recent events have had me thinking of restarted a couple of those but I haven't.  My best thinking got me in trouble with them in the first place. I try to remember that.

I had a pretty serious alcohol problem starting in about 1980. I finally got sober on 10/22/2014.
I'll be getting my 3 year chip in about 3 weeks! I'm so jazzed about that!

One thing I think about sometimes is that in 1980, when I was 20 years old, I had a golden opportunity to transition but got afraid of how my family would react and chickened out. It was about that time my drinking got bad and a general depression set in. I never made the connection between my drinking and dysphoria until after I quit.

I'm feeling much better now!

I must apologize for my previous post. I have just realized how wrong I have been when I posted my last response. I am lucky that I have not found a point in all that I do where I must give up my alcohol addiction. Reading what you have all posted has made me really think of where I’m at. I am not ready to stop but I am looking carefully at how I behave with it. I do know that I am not as strong as I think I am or as those that have stopped. I take my hat off to you all.
