When did your hips start to fill out?
« on: June 23, 2014, 06:42:38 am »
Or did they at all?

I'm approaching 6 months on estradiol only, and though I've seen good breast growth my hips are pretty much still straight up straight down.  In the last couple of weeks I think I'm getting some deposits on the sides of the thighs below my pelvises and maybe a little on the front of the pelvis itself, but I might be imagining it.  Or not :D

How long did it take for your hips to fill out?  Does it start in small areas and join up?

I know we're all different, but I'd like to hear how it was for you.

Thanks :)

I guess hips are possible, I have them…but I think they're mostly the result of my first ride on HRT 20 years ago. I was a lot younger then (24ish when I started) so it's possible I still had a little bit of skeletal growth left in me and two years of E gave me a bit of hip - dunno if that could even be possible. Certainly I've had slightly fattier/wider hips than most genetic males of similar weight even since and once I got back on HRT the shape quickly migrated there and I now have a gentle hourglass figure. I know that's unfortunately not the normal experience though.

Love the image of that, FP :) I would love to notice something like someday.

'Gentle hourglass figure'...what a delightful phrase :)
The common thread is the early start to HRT. I don't think I have much chance of skeletal growth at 45 :D
I can only hope that some fat goes on a bit in that area, and that I can lose some of this girth around the waist.

Anyone have any luck with hip pads?

Hips might fill out after some time, as they did for me, but if you start E after puberty, chances are you still won't have that hourglass figure because your hip bone is not wide enough. But, even some ciswomen have quite narrow hips...

I ended up curvy (waist and hips both), and I first noticed it about six months in. I think my hips shifted, or were always wide, because now they stick out and form a large part of my curves.
(I'm definitely not complaining, mind :P)

Since "hips" in fashion are actually the upper thighs, I'm not claiming my bone structure changed at all when I say my hips started to fill in a little by about a year on HRT... and are now still gradually filling out at 4+ years. Who knows how long it'll take, but I like seeing curves (and increasing butt). :)

Today, I wore a dress and did notice, to my surprise, that my body did have a pretty significant hourglass shape to it...more so since taking adequate doses of hormones for me. So, it is possible despite starting after puberty! It truly is. :) Now, I just need to lose a little weight, some cellulite and it'll be just perfect.  ;D

From what all of my long post-transition friends have been saying, a feminine shape is basically the slowest thing to come in. It takes 4-5 years before it's more or less completely done, and keeps going even after that. It should really starts visibly beginning around 9ish months.

Bone structure won't change, obviously, but thigh fat can definitely make up for it.

I've been on hormones for more than 10 yrs but really, have noticed a difference since taking a more adequate dose, within months. It can happen quite quickly too, it depends.

I think I'll throw in a second question to the same effect, do the sides of your torso beneath your ribcage retreat inwards?

In my case my hips are already plenty wide and wider than my shoulders but I'm almost as wide above my hips as below, it's soft tissue but I'm not sure if HRT will affect that area at all?

I do find my waist to be narrower than my hip area, well obviously...otherwise, I wouldn't be noticing the hourglass shape AND pre-menopausal women tend to accumulate much less fat in that area compared to other areas.

Joan,

I have been on Finasteride and Estradiol for less than a year. I was, also, grossly overweight. I was 340 pounds and now, one year later, I am 267 pounds. As I lost the weight, my waist went down, the chest went down, but the breasts and the hips increased. I now measure 47-40-47. My under breast chest is 41 inches.  I am 6 feet tall and shrinking. I used to be 6'1.5".

Finasteride and weight loss helped me more than anything else. Hips are basically muscle and fat. Depending on your age, you should not expect much change in your pelvic bone. The only way to get any curves at all is to build the gluteal muscle and eat a proper amount of good fat.

I was over a year on HRT before there was a measurable difference in my hips.

I already had a bit of a hip shape pre-HRT because of my muscles, that were trained from cycling a lot. Didn't notice much change myself, but after 8-9 months others started to saying I've got some hips going on. Also wearing skinny jean help showing them. My waist is still getting smaller.

Thank you all for sharing your experiences. I guess if they're going to come at all, the hips come later on, and knowing that at least gives me some hope :)

I've started losing weight again lately after a six month period when nothing I could do would help at all, and I do try my best to eat healthily and exercise.

I'm now 187cm tall (6'2"), 80kg (176lbs) and I measure 104-78-97cm (41-31-38"). My band size is 88cm (35").  My hips are much narrower than my shoulders, and I would really like that to even out even a bit.  The sight of that difference can really get me down sometimes.  I guess it will be time to measure again around Christmas :D

Don't forget that your shoulders can also get narrower. :) I started off at like 18" shoulders and now it's around 14". My hips are actually around the same width as my shoulders these days, but I don't think it was primarily hip growth that caused that!

(And I definitely have more of a waist now, though I'm still pretty plump. If I can't be skinny, I'll settle for curvy.)
