Ram Dass
« on: August 06, 2007, 07:21:17 pm »
I heard this guy lecture a couple times on my Zencast podcasts, I didn't know who he was except that he used to drop acid with Tim Leary. My drug counselor just gave nme a couple books by him.
Grist for the Mill and Journey of Awakening, A Mediitators Guidebook[/i]

His lectures alone have helped me a lot on finding mindfulness and awareness, the books should contribute to my continued enlightenment.

Ram Dass is an amazing, loving and very enlightened teacher and person.  Highly recommend watching the documentary about his life, made after he had a stroke.  It's called Fierce Grace.  A beautiful and inspiring film.

I have two books by Ram Dass, Grist for the Mill and The Only Dance There Is.  They made a real difference in my life.

I haven't heard of him for a very long time and am sorrowed that he suffered a stroke.

indeed, Ram Dass is a Hindu deal, not a Buddhist one.  Be Here Now is still quite a classic.  He came from a very, very, very rich family, and was the other person kicked out of Harvard with Leary for the LSD experiments.

Interesting.
I've seen that book when I lived in Northern Cali.
Had like a bunch of random quotes and pictures all over the pages at random angles.
Kinda like a collage.
Weird though. I didn't know that about him.

oooo, had a great curry at lunch today at the Indian buffet. A really good vindaloo as well. Yum.

Ram Dass is an American man. A psychiatrist as I recall, last American name Alpert, I believe.

Anymore I think a Hindu deal is just called "a deal." *smile*

Yum, saag. They had regular old nan today. A really good and yummy cauliflower and rice casserole. Forget the name.

Oh, I was in hog heaven. O, o, o. The rice kheer was to die for. What a grand dessert!! It was like eating curded honey-cream that had been seasoned with a summer flower garden. Fantastic!!

Next time email yourself over and we can go together, P!!

Richard Alpert, aka Ram Dass. Apparently he suffered a major stroke some years ago, there's a documentary about it, called Fierce Grace, his name for his learning experiences from the stroke.

I love curry too! We often cook vegetarian curries for dinner.
