Does HRT change your band size? (Male to Female)
« on: February 23, 2015, 12:07:40 am »
I was just curious because I hear the estrogen hormone makes fat go to my butt and breast area. By the way I am 16 years old, 5'10 skinny but has fat all over the place. I was also wondering if there is a possibility I will loose height and foot size by chance?
Thank you!

It is possible for HRT, and perhaps also helped along with a little dieting, for your band size to come down. Of course ultimately how low you get down will also depend on your overall skeletal rib cage size relative to any remaining upper body muscle and fat covering it.

For me, at the start of my transition I could barely squeeze into a 36 band and 38 was more comfortable for me. Now after 16 months of HRT, losing weight and as a result a few inches under bust I am now a 34 band size.
Nobody's perfect ...   I'll never try,
But I promise I'm worth it, if you just open up your eyes,
I don't need a second chance, I need a friend,
Someone who's gonna stand by me right there till the end,
If you want the best of my heart, you've just gotta see the good in me.

HRT now for 20 months. My weight has not changed but my band size has reduced by roughly 1/2 an inch. It may not sound much but it makes my rather modest breasts look just slightly more brash. I also endeavour to try and keep my upper abdomen tight; and I'm just about to head off to the exercise for transsexuals thread which I just noticed a moment ago.

Testosterone does cause the distribution of fat. Women tend to deposit it in different area of the body than men.

Unfortunately, there isn't much you can do about your height. Your bones have already received enough of your old hormones to fit your body's gender. You won't continue growing enough to notice at this point.

Even if your bone structure remains the same, it shouldn't cause a problem with the actual transition. Where it can cause a problem, it socially. Men want to be taller and stronger, both of which women seem to like. There are short males though, xy. There are also large females who are much taller than their male counterparts. Sometimes that makes dating a bit of a challenge.

Certainly it is possible for band size to change on HRT. I am 46 and have been on HRT for just over a year. In that time I have lost a significant amount of muscle tone and my body fat has been redistributed. A 40 band was slightly tight on me pre HRT and I now wear a 38. You may see a slight change in shoe size because shoe size is partially influenced by weight and fluid retention. They won't get shorter when measured from heel to toe, but the width and thickness from sole to the top of the foot may change (I sold shoes for 20 years). As others have pointed out you will not lose height because height is determined by skeletal structure.

At 16 your body is far from being finished developing. You got almost 10 years to finally be finished.

But yes, fat does move around and muscles tend to get smaller. My band size is a bit smaller now. Partly out of diet, partly HRT. Foot size is smaller, all due to HRT while walking an average of 4-6 miles almost daily.

In my case, my band size changed. Before HRT I had some forms I would wear, and I bought bras to wear them with. I normally wore a 38, but I had even felt like maybe I needed a 40 at one point. 15 months into HRT, and my band size is 34 now. In my case, I think my band size changed more because of the t-blockers than the estrogen. I had a very high testosterone level, and tended to get a lot of muscle even when I wasn't exercising. I had huge amount of muscle around the upper part of my rib cage, right under my arms. T-blockers melted all of that muscle away, leaving me with a less triangular body shape and a smaller band size.

I think I gain more weight on HRT than I used to. I always used to have this magical ability to eat anything I wanted to, and gain zero weight from it. Now I have a bit of belly pudge. I do notice that I have more fat distribution now to my chest and my butt. My butt actually deflated for a little while when I started HRT (due to muscle loss), and then filled out more than before in fat. I don't notice much fat making its way to my hips, but I'm sure that due to my bigger butt, it kind of looks that way from behind.

I haven't gotten any shorter on HRT, and it's hard to tell if my shoe size has changed at all. I don't think it has, but for some reason I have found a few shoes one or two sizes smaller than my old norm that fit me alright now.

I'm 5' 9", and I don't personally see that as a passibility problem. There are tall women out there, and it's actually a very attractive trait to lots of people. My height means that I generally avoid anything with a heel and I have to alter most of my dresses to not be scandalous on me, but other than that I'm actually fine with it.

I'm 5'10 and lost about an inch in my band size went from 30" to 29" I had a small band size to begin with but I still saw a change because the small amount of muscle mass I did have was in my back and it all melted away after a few years of hrt.

I've been on HRT for two years and lost close to 30 lbs, and I'm still the exact same size-42 band that I was when I started. :(

I'm pretty sure it does, but nothing like weight gain/loss. I've mixed the two together over the years so I'm not totally sure about the HRT. I've gone from 46" to 39" recently though, and that was mostly if not completely weight loss.
