It is good to know that other nations are withdrawing the obligation of surgery, especially onerous upon M-F, in order for a citizen to attain status in one's identified gender.
For quite a time, a F-M could simply declare their status with little medical supervision, treatment, or surgery (though 'up top' is common) and receive all the benefits and legalities. Meanwhile the M-F was obligated to endure a 'gatekeeper' system and then go through all forms of surgeries including GCS / SRS before receiving official imprimatur. Sometimes that 'gatekeeper' system unfairly denied advancement to a client who otherwise qualified.
Not all M-F can afford all the required operations:
- there is little insurance coverage for procedures and surgeries,
- surgeons accept only cash-in-advance,
- surgery locations are distant from home and require travel and temporary stay,
- M-F are put through the wringer with required psychiatric evaluations and delays not imposed upon F-M.
The F-M can all but walk into a clinic and receive oophorectomy, hysterectomy, mastectomy on demand while this 'gatekeeper' system imposes M-F to undergo endless delays and evaluations for something simple and routine as their orchiectomy.
Even if all costs were covered by some form of a universal coverage and all surgeries were first-class, there will be some candidates who chose few surgical options. Some may not want certain surgeries; some may not medically qualify for certain surgeries.
Certainly when the legal system is prohibited from imposing forced surgical procedures on convicted criminals, how can that same medical and legal community then demand similar, or more drastic, procedures upon the law-abiding citizen?
I find it fair and reasonable that one can at least meet the obligation to appear before a court and make a declaration with support documentation from a medical professional - e.g., endocrinologist, gender therapist, psychiatrist - who has managed one's case for a specified duration to assert confirmation of the validity of the transsexual's claim. Such obligation meets the needs of the true transsexual while it weeds out frivolous opportunists who may attempt to present without evidence in order to commit fraud or misrepresentation.
Merci.
