Spatter has been relatively low thank you Davina.
This is my first time really going at body work. And fine metal at that. I'm welding in 18 gauge. But car is definitely 20-22 gauge.
I did not want to have to replace any of the actual outer body panels, but had to do a small triangle that had been filled nearly and inch thick with <not allowed> welds.
Most of the lower bits and sill are all under a plastic side skirt so really doesn't matter how I do that.
Just need to drill a hole and square it off for the side skirt clip.
Hopefully start the inner arch this weekend.

And here is the rest of her before I started anything after an underbody wash. Rust was highly localised to the inner arches and sills at the rear only.

I do have one breakline to redo as the steal line just followed the nut off lol.
Not a big deal though, I enjoy doing break lines

Look at Bad Chad to see how to weld without distortion, just spot and cool with airline and skip about the panel to keep heat out. Can you run .6 wire as you will get a better weld on thin <not allowed>. Never got.6 to work on my welder.

Yeah I been keeping this very cool!.
I can't have distortion!.
I can switch to .6mm with my machine.
I might try it, but so far this has been going very well
I might get a small drum and try a day.
Also would love to try an argon mix.
But when grinding 90% of the welds away anyway I'm not sure it's worth it

My winter fuel payment came in so of course bought a head gasket set and some head bolts!! Taking the second hand head I got to be skimmed today then I can put the top end together once the valves turn up.

Did you actually get that winter fuel payment Davina?
Got nothing yet here in NI.
Nice to get a few bits though.
I'm freezing at the moment most nights.
Luckily it has got slightly milder this last couple days

Yes 500, 190 for gasket set and head bolts and 40 for head skim. Trouble is it's 200 for a cambelt kit, still need water pump and thermostat and an oil cooler as cant find one in this part of the world inc Europe. You can get them from the states as Omega sold as a Chevy, a lot of faff and not cheap.
You need one of those heated wraps to stay warm, no good for working but great at night!!

Yeah bringing anything in from the states is a nightmare.
I hope we get that heat payment soon!

It has been way to cold to go to my unit but looks like Monday we are having a "heat" wave, valve guides done on r/h cyl head and the 2 intake valves turned up as well as grub screws to block of air injection holes in head. Just need to lap in intakes and assemble, then it can go on. Cam belt setting tool coming, just need a belt kit, water pump and thermostat. still not found an oil cooler so might have to fit a remote.

I'm too am looking forward to the change in weather.
It's been a difficult couple weeks.
Can't wait to be able to paint and keep going with my rust elimination

Have been getting some done to the engine, heads on, water pump and thermostat fitted and managed to get a used stainless oil cooler from a Vectra. Also turned up today was a cambelt kit for £50!! it was stock a Vauxhall specialist wanted to shift and he said it was 3 years old so should be fine.

That took some time to sort, cambelt kit has a roller missing so a delay getting that. Engine all assembled now. Ordered the clutch cylinder and gearbox rear mounting and then its ready to refit the unit back in. Then I will be able to build up the engine bay.

Always the wee stupid bits.

With weather warming up soon I will get back to my EK civic and welding.

My CA5 accord is back on the ground and driving pretty good bar a <not allowed> alternator

I have a new toy, ac/dc TIG welder so that I hopefully can weld some aluminium bits once I have taught myself to do it. Have TIGed steel okay but alloy is a lot harder to do.

Lovely job. I would love a tig. But that's for another day.

Getting my head around alloy TIG welding, getting better but no prize winner yet! Made up the heater feed pipes from 15mm copper pipe and 90deg solder fittings, waiting for some hoses to plumb it in.

Cracking on with it as funds allow, intake made, fuel tank fitted and air ride working. Load bay and rear seat made from 12mm ply. Getting to the point where I need more bits I cant afford------
