Post-op for 1 day, Dr.Sutin, PAI
« on: July 08, 2018, 02:29:21 am »
Had my SRS yesterday by Dr.Sutin from PAI. Best decision in my life and it was nice to see that the body and mind were agreeing, as I was on the operating table already being prepared, my blood pressure was normal and heart beat was relaxed, which the anesthetic nurse found surprising  :)

Feeling a bit dizzy and I have slight fever, but otherwise I´m fine, no real pain, just discomfort.

The staff at the hospital have been really great!

Congratulations  :icon_flower:! It's wonderful that you were so calm just before the surgery.
Best of luck with the recovery, and keep us updated! I am going to have my surgery with Dr. Sutin in October  ^-^

Had that packaging removed today, and lets just say, that I don´t ever again, not in this lifetime, not in next, never, want to experience anything like that. Most of the anxiety comes, when your mind doesn´t know where you are being touched, what is happening, there is no previous reference, everyhing is new and at least for me, created panic.

After that, I had a complete meltdown, crying eyes off from my head, as I couldn´t pee. The catheter needed to be put back. I know, that this is not rare, everything is just swollen and still need to wait a bit. I know and perhaps the crying was just stress release from weeks, months and years?

The positives; Even with the swelling, I can see past the swelling, and if nothing unexpected happens, the result will look great! Really!

I also already have a sense of feeling downstairs as when the nurse was showing how to clean places, it suddenly felt good, differently good than before, but good. Again, brain didn´t know how to react, so only giggling came out. Definitely can feel!

Mendi here's a big hug from me.  I am sorry to hear some of this caused you to panic, but you also are experiencing some great things.  Your next days will improve and continue to go more smoothly.  And congratulations!

Hi Mendi! I'm having Sigmoid srs with dr sutin next month!  I will have my surgery at phyathai 2. I'm extremely nervous but excited. Is there any pointers you can give from your experience so far? I wish you a smooth recovery!

I was operated and stayed at Phyathai 2 also. The hospital is nice, no real complaints really. The nurses don´t speak that good English, some of them not much at all, but then again, you wont have much to talk with them either, if and when everything goes as planned with the recovery.

Get a laptop, book or something that you like to do, because it will get boring otherwise. I at least wasn´t that much in pain, not with morphine and without it, that I couldn´t chat, read news, movies etc. from laptop.

I would do it all over again and now having experienced the whole process at PAI and at Phyathai 2, I really don´t think this cost anything at all. Back at home, I would have not ever gotten treatment like this, not even close!

I was taken back to a hotel with a young woman, who had gotten Sigmoid srs. At least at this point, she didn´t have any complaints and seemed happy of her choise.

But if your legal gender is still M, don´t get upset, because everywhere will read Mr. I think it´s just for legal purposes, because everyone will call you Madam and treat you properly.

I noticed this also at hotel, that they put Mr., but still they treat me as a woman. I just love Thailand, it doesn´t seem to matter what some official paper says, you are who you say you are, and that´s that.

There is sensation, but at this point I am too afraid to do anything else or touch more than required with cleaning, than I could say much more. I somehow mentally am in constant alert mode, that it is going to hurt soon, perhaps now. It´s strange.

I still have that catheter. This was something that I wasn´t mentally prepared, I had thought all other things that can happen and went through those in my mind that what then.

But not this peeing problem and it´s really getting me down and making me cry here. Tomorrow I´ll try again to pee, but as I´m already anxious and crying here, I don´t know how that is going to work, which makes me then even more anxious.

Try to be mentally prepared to all possibilities, even to rare ones. This peeing problem happens to 5 to 10 % of women.

Awe don't cry! It's going to be fine. I see the peeing problem is common.  I've gotten prepared for that, I'm packing a couple of maxi dresses so I can hide my catheter. Is walking a problem for you? I requested a wheelchair for my departure from the hospital to use until I head back home. That way my husband can push me to the stores and restaurants around town.

Your probably feeling your hormone levels crash and it's what's making you emotional. I am not sure how long it will last but it will stop once your permitted to return to HRT. Try not to worry about things and realize these problems are only temporary and will end shortly.

I also found myself very emotional after surgery and like you, the fact I couldn't pee didn't help. The nurse came in to discuss how I would pay for the additional hospital time and that made me emotional. Realize that I had the money but it was in a saving account and I couldn't write a check on it until after I returned home. An easily solved problem but it still upset me.

Hi Mendi. Dont overthink everything it will be ok. The difficulty in peeing the first time is quite common, give it a day or two. I will come by to visit you this weekend. And your hormone level , as Dena says will cause emotional and physical stress until you start again.
When we first start our journey the perception and moral values all dramatically change in wonderment. As we evolve further it all becomes normal again but the journey has changed us forever.

I can walk, slowly. But can. This morning it feels like most of the actual pressure in very lower abdomen/upper genital area that I was feeling yesterday and before is gone and without catheter I think I could actually probably walk quite normally.

I know part of this emotional distress is because now there is no hormones, nada, zombie  ;D

Tomorrow, if the internal examination shows that everything is ok I can resume taking hormones and perhaps part of my emotions will be better under control.

Congratulations Mendi, so happy to hear you are doing well. There always seems to be something with surgery to drive us a little crazy, but you will be fine. It's kind of like renting a car, a surgery like this. You feel like you need to get out the owner's manual to see how things  work, only there is none. Keep smiling!

With more crying and teeth grinding, I managed to pee. It´s not a continues stream and requires some pushing, but I can. However, the catheter would be back, unless I would have tried all sort of positions above the toilet seat  :) I mean sitting directly at the toilet seat wont work at the moment, due to the sensation of swelling and tightness, but squatting above the seat like a ski jumper worked!  ;D

Just have to keep a bit of track how much I drink and how much comes out, because the stream is not continues and requires a bit of pushing.

The positives; First dilatation today and at that point when 6 inch of the size 1 dilator was inside I started to laugh and asked from Dr.Sutin, that did you put a bottom at all to my vagina? He also seemed honestly surprised. 6 inch and a bit more is the depth at the moment that I could take in comfortably and carefully.

I've heard some women find it easier peeing standing up after the catheter comes out - in the shower is probably best.

I had to chuckle at your toilet description, I didn't realise I may need some gymnastic skills for the first little while after surgery in order to pee....you can imagine the mental images that your description created  :D It certainly made me smile... Its good that your body is starting to return to its normal function.

Sounds like you are making great progress.

That is a great result for depth for your first dilation. Congrats

I mostly used the shower to pee during the first couple weeks after GCS/SRS.

After GCS-2 revision earlier this week, for the first 3 days I again used the shower for this.

Hih, yeah I still continue my ski jumping trainings in toilet  ;D

Now, if bowel would start to function as well, I might feel mostly ok  :)

Now that I´ve dilated few times by myself, in peace and relaxed and not with 3 people staring and one taking photographs, the depth is 6,5 inches and closing the 7 inch mark. I think I could reach the 7 inch mark, but I rather have Dr.Sutin to check next week, that everything is ok before trying.

Am I happy? More than that. I really didn´t have much material to begin with, if you use the length as an indicator. I was just borderlining, can the inversion be even done without skin grafts. But for some reason, I seemed to have enough skin even for two people  :)
