Seeing Gender Competent Clinician in Two Days!
« on: February 11, 2019, 11:11:41 pm »
Hey all,

In two days I'll be seeing my first gender aware clinician - a neuropsychologist who leads a lot of studies on the intersection of neurodiversity (autism more or less) and gender diversity. I need to get some psych testing for old accommodations redone, but also obviously need to address the dysphoria eating away at me. After dealing with fertility questions, my goal is to get on HRT relatively soon.

My guess is that he'll bounce me to a gender therapist at some point, although it'll be a good start. I'm excited and kinda scared. Any words of wisdom or support?

Good luck! Relax, be yourself, and be honest is the best advice I can offer.  :)

Hugs, Devlyn

Its always scary when we set off on this journey...seeing your first professional can be very nerve wracking. Sorry to hear about your Dysphoria it always sucks when it rears its ugly head. Just be yourself...try and be as open as you can...always a tough ask I know. Hope you get the help you need.

Thanks everyone for your responses!

The appointment went really well, and he'll see me next week. He also helped my mother better understand how to support me - great for both of us.

He was very friendly, understanding, and progressive, both genderqueer and neurodivergent himself.
