Leftover chili seems to be one of the foods that taste pretty good, even though it is a leftover!
I look forward to some later today!

A lot of meals such as pasta dishes, meatloaf, soups, stew, chili, mac & cheese, etc... do real well as left-overs and reheated the next day or so.  Sometimes they taste better the second time around.

Eating through my refrigerator before leaving for surgery. Tonight: Chicago-style hot dog. But I grilled the dog instead of steaming. Not sure if that goes against the Chicago-style code. If it does, I’m not sorry because the dog was delicious.

Mandarin orange for dessert.

Here where I live it is now only 3:00PM in the afternoon, Alaska Time.

I am not sure what I am doing for dinner.   If I stay late at my office I just might get some "take out" from my next
door coffee shop and either eat it here or take it home.

A Reuben Sandwich and Fries sounds good to me....

More cleaning out the fridge...threw the last of the hot dogs into a pot of canned pinto beans with some tomatoes and other veggies. It’s ok...it needed more umami. I think I should have at least grilled the dogs before throwing them in with the beans. Also would have been better with starting from dried beans. And maybe some beef stock would have been good. Or Worcestershire sauce. Or maybe it was never going to be great with hot dogs. Oh well - it was good enough.

I had Chinese beef and steamed sweet rice. Hoisin, oyster, and soy sauce are noted for umami.
4 to 6 oz ground chuck (not much fat which means it can be overly dry when fried)
Tonight I cooked just four ounces as I'm eating my way through a big package of Oreo cookies.  ;D
marinated three hours in the refrigerator before cooking with
1/4 tbl Hoisin
1/2 tbl Lee Kum Kee oyster sauce
1/2 tbl soy sauce
1/2 tbl Shaoxing wine
1/4 tsp sesame oil which is really strong so err on the side of too little
1/4 tbl sugar
microplane one clove of garlic, then microplane frozen ginger
Fry in non-stick pan at 350 degrees.  Break up the beef into small pieces and fry until the beef is browned and then the marinade is reduced.
The sweet rice is cooked in an old Zojirushi automatic rice cooker set on white with the timer to soak the rice for three hours.

My daughter and I wanted eggplant parmesean, but we were concerned that my wife and oldest daughter wouldn't like it so we made eggplant parmesean and chicken parmesean with roasted veggies (Brussel sprouts, carrots, potatoes and cauliflower) and homemade noodles. Everybody liked the eggplant so we are having the chicken parmesean tomorrow.

Chicken and figs was nice, chicken overcooked though as it was a large breast and took ages to cook through so was a bit dry on outside (note to self use thinner one next time). Have a leek lurking in the fridge and 2 more chicken breasts and a recipe for chicken and leek pie thats perfect for that amount .

I butterfly or cut and fold out thick pieces of chicken to make them thinner.  Chicken can also be pounded with a mallet.

Yes I would have if I had know it would have taken so long , we learn by doing!! Found the use by date on the rolled shoulder of lamb is up today so not so much what are you having for dinner tonight but what are you cooking for the freezer. Lamb Passander (traditional curry) with 450 g cubed and the rest is lamb with whole spices slow cooked in a sealed pot in the oven. Have some pastry left from chicken and leek pie so apple turnover for pudding. Also have some stem ginger to use up so will have a bash at the ginger cookie recipe again.

Thawed some chili.  Will heat it up for dinner.

I still have Mandarin oranges so I will likely eat a few of them too!
