NSG, why did you choose Alaska for your home and how did you choose the town where you live?
Dear Oldandcreaky:Most all of the answers you are seeking
are found in my blog threads listed at the
bottom of any comment that I post, but here is a quick preliminary summary of my initial time in Alaska..
I had been "informally" transitioning for many years while in college but I finally got serious and started my HRT transition in March of 2015 and was able to go Full-Time in December of 2016.
In my previous male mode life I was an accounting executive in a mid-size multi-state company in the Midwest...
I also was a moderator in an Accounting Forums which had members from all over the USA... mostly CPAs, Financial planners, Tax Consultants and other accounting executives.
One of the long time members in that Forum was an older gentleman in Alaska that was retiring and because of his failing health and his age he was planning to close his business, but he was
very concerned for his clients that had no where else to go locally other than a 3 to 5 hour drive to the big cities.
I decided to fly up there to visit him and he was thrilled that I was interested in taking over his business clients and start my own business there.
He introduced me to the landlord of the building that his office was in, and he also introduced me to some of the town representatives.... all of that went very well so I came back home and just about immediately quit my job, packed up and went "North to Alaska" .... I grew up in the Northern Midwest, .. so I am quite accustomed to cold weather and snow... my parents and extended family are there.
The other factor acting as a catalyst for me to pull up stakes and move over 1,000 miles away was the fact that I
was not accepted and supported by my family, my parents especially, even to this day. I even had acceptance difficulties with quite a few of my "former" friends back home... so it was seemingly a very good decision to leave.
For more details about my first year or two in my new town you should consider going to my following thread:
