Monday December 06, 2021  8:59AM

I woke up early this morning... still cold out there, but it is much "warmer this morning" than yesterday morning.
Instead of minus -36 deg(f)... this morning it is minus -16 deg(f)
All this next week the temperatures will be well below Zero (f)

Here is my early morning at my office breakfast of champions ....
.... chocolate dipped Biscotti.   yum yum

My favorite Barista at the next door coffee shop brought it to me this morning.

Stay warm my friends!!!!
HUGS,
Danielle

That's the kind of cold that makes you mad!  It's a damp yucky day here in Seattle, warmer than you but very grey and drippy.  Is it too early to be longing for summer?

Have a great day!

Mind the slippery stuff and stay warm dear, might make ginger cookies today.

@davina61
Dear Davina:
Ahhhhh.... Ginger Cookies,  mmm, mmm, good.

Nothing like cookies just out of the oven...  makes the house smell good and they are so very tasty and scrmptious when they are still warm.
... a picture of your results would be wonderful to see!!!

They are nothing special and taste of black treacle , might have put a bit much in but its hard to measure 1 1/2 tablespoons when its so gloopy . Still they are crispy outside and soft in middle.

Tuesday, December 07, 2021  Tuesday late afternoon, getting off work soon.

It's been a long and busy day at my office today...  many of my clients are trying to get their act together for the end of 2021 so that they can address their Income Tax issues before the year end.  Non-stop meetings today.

I will locking up my office in about an hour and going to dinner at my tooth-fairy's home.
I am not certain what she is serving for dinner but no worries, she is a great cook and we like most of the same things for our meals.   For dessert I am bringing a Lemon Pound Cake that I made last night.

It has been snowing on and off all day long and the good news is that the temperatures have warmed up significantly from the last 5 or 6 days...  no negative below zero(f) temperatures after this morning's low of minus -9 degrees(f).
Right now it is 7 deg(f) and will stay above zero overnight.

One of the men that I know from my visits at the next door coffee shop is going to my home to snow plow my driveway so when I get home I won't have to do that task.
He refuses to have me pay him but, as always I will be sure to bake him a batch of Chocolate Chip Cookies..

I trust that all of my readers and followers are OK and staying safe and healthy.
HUGS,
Danielle

@Northern Star Girl

I know about that unfortunate fall from last year and that is why I mentioned this to you.
We do not want that repeated.

December 10, 2021  Friday night 7:45PM

It has been snowing all day today.... a lot of new accumulation on the ground....
... below Zero and near Zero (f) temperatures all day today.
I have very good snow tires, 4 wheel drive, and I carry chains and a
shovel in my vehicles.

The days are getting very short now that the Winter Solstice is coming very
soon in 11 days on December 21.

This morning's sunrise was at 10:23AM
sunset this afternoon was at 2:49PM

.....about 4½ hours of sunlight and about 19½ hours of night

Tomorrow on Saturday I will be baking all day... making
cookie and candy treat plates to give out around town and at my office.

Danielle

Wow.  I'm not sure I'd be able to handle that (the cold OR the long nights).  I guess you get used to it.

I didn't really like the longer nights in Boston when I lived there -- I remember it being dark when I got to work in the morning, and also being dark when I started home after work.  Since my building didn't have windows, there might be 5 days in a row where I never saw daylight.  It was weird, but NOTHING like what you're describing.

Do you ever let the long nights affect your mood?  I'm afraid it would affect me...

@TXSara
Dear Sara:
In the summer time I have "black-out" curtains throughout my home so I can more easily cope with the long constant daylight.   In June and July it really never gets dark even when the sun barely goes down over the horizon for a couple hours it is still twilight and dusk, not really dark at all.

In the wintertime in the months of December and January when the sun does rise for a few hours it is very low near the horizon so there are never bright sunny days.  I make a point of having lots of bright lighting in my home to compensate.

All in all, I get along well and am quite accustomed to the extreme seasonal changes, the long and short days and nights, and the cold.

Regarding the bitter cold temperatures here in the winter, I am well prepared as most Alaskans are.... full propane tanks at home for heat and cooking, extra fuel for my home generator when there are power outages, I have two vehicles always with nearly full tanks of gas, good winter snow tires, I carry chains and a shovel in each vehicle along with blankets and extra warm clothes and boots.... and if I am driving out of town I have food, snacks and water..... and a fully charged cell phone and laptop, along with chargers.
My vehicles are always well maintained with good batteries and tires.

Thank you for writing and sharing your thoughts.   You are always very welcome on my Blog and other threads to post what you wish....
HUGS and more HUGS,
Danielle

Monday night, December 13, 2021    7:40pm

I took some of m homemade cookies and candy to my office and gave out
a few "treat plates" to some of my clients and some of my friends.

Today, all day, has been very COLD.
Right now this evening it is minus -23 deg(f) bellow Zero.
Later tonight and early morning it will get even colder minus -28 deg(f) and
it will be SNOWING much of the night.

When it is very cold as it is tonight.... a hot meal is nice to have at home.

Well its warmed up here, put the heater on in bedroom for my dilation and it got so hot it woke an hibernating Peacock butterfly. Its vanished after turning heat and light off so hopefully  in a safe place so will keep heat low.
Thats bitter cold !! Stay cosy and safe. Do you have heaters for your gas tank to stop that freezing ?

Dear Davina:
You asked a great question!!!
Up here where I live where we have well below Zero(f) outside temperatures, Propane Tanks are buried in the ground so that they are not exposed as much to the cold weather...

At  approximately minus -40 degrees(f) below Zero or colder, propane does not vaporize and has a tendency to stay as a liquid, at that point because there is little or no vapor, propane appliances won't function properly.

Regarding your Butterfly that woke up from hibernating...
...before I converted my Fireplace to Propane, I did burn a lot of wood, and many times when bringing wood in from the cold outside I would find that I brought in bees and other insects that warmed up and became active....  not a happy event in my home.

Thanks for writing and sharing,
HUGS,
Danielle

Yes I have had butane gas bottles not work at just below 0C , the butterfly was flapping against my window so I let it out. Warm today in the mid teens so sure it would find shelter.
