@TXSara Dear Sara:In the summer time I have "black-out" curtains throughout my home so I can more easily cope with the long constant daylight. In June and July it really never gets dark even when the sun barely goes down over the horizon for a couple hours it is still twilight and dusk, not really dark at all.
In the wintertime in the months of December and January when the sun does rise for a few hours it is very low near the horizon so there are never bright sunny days. I make a point of having lots of bright lighting in my home to compensate.
All in all, I get along well and am quite accustomed to the extreme seasonal changes, the long and short days and nights, and the cold.
Regarding the bitter cold temperatures here in the winter, I am well prepared as most Alaskans are.... full propane tanks at home for heat and cooking, extra fuel for my home generator when there are power outages, I have two vehicles always with nearly full tanks of gas, good winter snow tires, I carry chains and a shovel in each vehicle along with blankets and extra warm clothes and boots.... and if I am driving out of town I have food, snacks and water..... and a fully charged cell phone and laptop, along with chargers.
My vehicles are always well maintained with good batteries and tires.
Thank you for writing and sharing your thoughts. You are always very welcome on my Blog and other threads to post what you wish....
HUGS and more HUGS,
Danielle
