Shepherds pie is good made with a Keema (Indian mince lamb and peas) for a bit of mild spice.
News feed keeps giving warning of 3 feet of snow and minus C temps when we are having a very mild spell , its up to 12C today !

That's a really good idea! Hadn't ever thought of making an Indian-style shepherd's pie...definitely on my list of to-dos...

@Rachel Montgomery
Dear Rachel:
Yes .....    I get gifts from my clients of Elk and also Moose ....   those do not have the wild game taste that Venison has... and it is very lean and mild... great tasting... I use it like I do with beef.

I also get my share of gifts of Salmon and other fish ... but I do a lot of river and lake fishing myself too.

I make a point to return the favor by baking lots of cookies and other treats to give back to them and my other clients.

Danielle --

Boy do I wish I could go skiing again.

When I lived in Boston, we went into New Hampshire about 4-5 times a season.  When I was single and living in Tucson, there was Northern AZ and Utah.  Nowadays, you really have to make a long hike out to New Mexico or Colorado.  Since my wife had a bad experience her first time skiing (and used that bad experience to poison the well for my girls), I haven't gone in about 18 years.  It makes me sad to think about it.

Someday, maybe... although I'm sure it isn't anywhere near as "fun" to take a tumble as it was when I was in my mid-late 20's!

Looking beautiful as always, @Northern Star Girl .

But you don't look dressed warmly enough for the interior of Alaska in January! A sweatshirt and leggings??? Brrrr....

@TXSara
Dear Sara:
New England skiing is very nice.   When I was going to college and lived in Connecticut I spent many weekends going skiing in Vermont.

Oh yeah, I hear you, taking a tumble and falling down as one gets older can be a bad thing.
I am much more reserved and careful when I am now skiing than I was 20 years ago.

Thank you for sharing your skiing story.
HUGS,
Danielle

Dear Sarah:
Thank you for your nice compliment!!!!   :)

I was plenty warm ... my hoodie sweatshirt over another sweatshirt, and flannel lined leggings
and thermal underwear, top and bottom under all of that!!!!
Heavy wool socks and ski boots...and warm ski gloves.

Thank you for coming to my thread and thank you for your posting.

Looking great Danielle, stay warm!

Have you every looked at the down jackets from Feathered Friends in Seattle?  They make the warmest jackets I have every worn, and super lightweight too.  Their gear is highly respected and sought after in the mountaineering community, it's not cheap but OMG it is so worth it.  Ethically sourced and all made here in Seattle.  They also make down duvets!

All the best,

Brooke

Another COLD and snowy night....  minus -14 deg (f) ...
...very windy resulting in a "wind chill factor" of minus -34 deg (f)
It has been snowing most of the afternoon, expecting a couple feet accumulation.

I got home after work at around 6:00pm and I made a nice hearty
Beef stew.   Super lean Moose-burger, onions, mixed vegetables,
and diced tomatoes, all in a tomato sauce/tomato paste base.

I made enough for another couple meals for lunch and dinner.

Mighty fine tasting on a cold winter night. ...

I can smell the goodness from SoCal !

You are lucky to be able to harvest and share your own local food. Wish I could forage around here.

Our winter is over. It’s been 85-90 for the last few days.

Your stew looks delicious.

I would help my mom make dinner. When she made stew I braised the beef cubes and she always used a soup bone.

@Rachel
Dear Rachel:
For sure, a soup bone adds wonderful flavor to the soup base.
When I make a split-pea with ham soup I almost always include some of the ham bone while making the soup.

For my recently made beef stew I used a tomato soup base along with beef Bone Broth.
It was a wonderful!!!!

Danielle

Here various traditional recipes of soup bone are available. As livestock were scarce in the Korean peninsula, ancient Koreans did not waste even the bones left.

Friday afternoon... February 18, 2022

Here it has been snowing all afternoon... and will continue "on and off" through tomorrow (Saturday)

Snow accumulation of 7 inches today so far, with more coming on Saturday!!!!   ...
...and single digit temperatures and this weekend on Saturday and Sunday it
will get colder down to minus -17 deg (f) BELOW ZERO

When I finally get home after work, I am going to make my famous homemade Tomato Soup and probably
make a Grilled Sandwich... maybe just Cheese, or even a a Turkey, Bacon, Tomato and Cheese Club sandwich.

Then, after dinner I will sit in front of my fireplace, toast my legs and my toes ...
... and read some books that I have been going through lately.

Stay warm, stay safe, and stay healthy my dear forums friends.
