Anyone on hair supps?
« on: January 25, 2020, 10:50:00 pm »
I've been growing out my hair for around six months now and taking them reg.  Has anyone noticed a significant change in volume over the time they've been taking them?

I have honestly never had any faith in these things.
I personally believe a balanced diet and an active Lifestyle to be the best hair treatment, along with minimal colour and heat.

I have been taking finasteride and also using minoxidil for a couple months now and I'm starting to see a difference. The thin area on top has started to fill. Can't wait to see what it looks like after six or more months.

Yep, I know and I'm trying my hardest with all that as well.  I guess I'm just throwing everything at it because I want the volume as fast as possible, I'm very impatient.  It will be a while before it reaches your length, nice pic btw.

I'm glad you see a difference.  It will be interesting to see the change after another year or so for me.  Can't wait.

Patience will be a virtue in the hair game, refraining from constantly changing colours or straightening / Curling will add heaps of quality to it aswell.
I died mine just once for some blonde streaks, you can really tell that it does damage.

Thanks Rachel, I appreciate your advice.  Curling and colouring could be tempting down the road, I'll try and keep it to a minimum then ;)

I use carotene and biotin supplements. I started with falling out hair 4 years ago. Since beginning HRT my hair has grown to the bottom of my shoulder blades. .

I have been taking biotin supplements for over two years, and started taking 'Viviscal' in November 2019. The biotin definitely helps my nails, and my stylist says the thin areas on my scalp are definitely fuzzier now. I'll keep taking the Viviscal for a while to see if things continue to improve.

Same opinion.   I tried some, wasn't impressed, but I'm slightly biased against things like that anyway.   Diet is huge in my book.

I take Finasteride in my HRT and I also take Biotin and Collagen too. My hair is the longest, strongest, and healthiest its ever been in my life. Before I started HRT I had a lot of thinning at my crown and that's completely filled in and about 3 or 4 inches long now. I can't see any skin back there unless I part my hair. The back of my hair is about 9 or 10 inches long and I LOVE that!!!

Also before HRT I would have to clean the lost hair out of my brush quite often, and that seems to be a thing of the past too. The only problem I have with my hair now is that it's extremely hard for me to keep my hands out of it. I'm wanting to play with it constantly, and sadly I think I've stunted it on one side by playing with it so much. I'm making a concerted effort to keep my hands out of it now.

Congrats on your hair progress Lexxi.  Ive also been taking collagen.
I read on my HRT lab results paperwork that biotin can skew lab results for T, or raise the T level.  Looked kind of official, anyone else read that?

My T level went up last lab, so I stopped taking biotin for hair supplement for time being.  I have not been tested again yet.
In any case, it's difficult for met to interpret changes in levels due to many factors involved

Thank the Lord for Olaplex. I have super, super fine hair, my Mom does too, it's wispy and has a will of it's own, mostly for breaking. At least we don't have much familial baldness. I use the Olaplex #3 treatment once per week and I swear it makes it stronger, natural blond or dyed (actually I'm dyed because my natural bonde is fading to grey ...  :o)

I nearly went the biotin route but I chose Keratin in the end and have had good results so far.  I've also been using a top quality shampoo and conditioner that has made a big difference to my scalp.  I think things are heading in the right direction, long way to go yet.

I look forward to the time where I worry about volume   I just want hair to grow on my bald spot and where it is thinning in the front.  I didn't like it before I came out :icon_cry2: but now it is a lot more serious because I want to look like a woman with hair.

I will consider taking almost anything that is safe.  After reading this sounds like I'll try biotin and some actually good shampoo.  Then maybe rogaine and/or finasteride.

I have been really curious about this, thanks for starting this thread Jenny

How has the finasteride been for you TooTallAlex?  I've read a lot about the side effects, but wondering how rare they are.

It's been fine and no major side effects. Libido is down a bit and hair seems to be filling in as well.

As with any medication each person will have their own experiences.

I took Biotin supplements for months and I've seen no changes, so I don't take it regularly.

I've used rogaine  for months and have not seen any change with that. I'm on the last can I'm planning on buying.

I'm going to try a dermaroller on my scalp. I've heard that this can increase rogaine's effectiveness. Has anyone else here tried this?

I used a dermaroller and it seems help with the absorption of the minoxidil. The key to minoxidil is you have to be regular at it. And if you stop anything the minoxidil helped with will go away.
