I have two diamond studs in each ear. The lobe is slightly larger that the one on the top of it. I would prefer one stud on top and on the bottom a nice simple hoop but that is too much as I am still presenting as male most of the time and at work.

Looking forward to hoops!

I'm adding how the earrings thing ended for me in case it helps someone.  My ears were not infected.  They were on way too tight.  I had absent mindedly tightened them one day, just fiddling with them and forgot about it.  WHY?  No idea.  WHen I remembered this, I loosened them and now they are fine.

Dear Madeleine:
Regarding earrings... there are so very many enticing styles to choose from....   hoops and danglies are my favorite but you have to be careful about getting them caught is something when wearing them.... especially with hoops.

When I am doing "active" stuff I usually just go with plain or fancy stud of some kind.

Hugs,
Danielle

I used to leave studs in for a long time when younger, weeks on end but recently I stopped doing it as it's uncomfortable in bed.  I've also got a lot faster putting them on, they used to be a hassle but not anymore :)

I love to wear diamond studs.  Well, they are not really diamonds.

Sometimes I have to constrain myself and NOT wear the large ones as they would not be right for the occasion.  It would be like they might be the focus of attention. I just like them to help make for a nice appearance.

Sometimes size does matter!

I'll be purchasing a multi chain-drop in gold with an emerald stone soon.  It's only costume jewelry (very cheap) but looks utterly fab.  Anyone own a pair in this style?  Will be my first like this.

When I was a lot younger, I had three holes in the left ear, and one in the right.

When I enlisted, I obviously had to stop wearing them, but almost 20 years later, they actually never closed up.

So, I'm putting them back to use. :)

That's AMAZING they never closed up after all that time.  I wouldn't trust mine after a year, let alone 20! :o   Anyways, have fun, I'm really starting to wear mine more reg, especially the pink CZ sparkle studs, they seem to work well.

I was surprised, too, but yeah, they're still open!

One thing I think that ironically helped, was that due to the high stress I previously had, I used to have really bad psoriasis outbreaks, and I think the dead skin would get trapped in the holes (a bit gross, but it kept them from closing, in retrospect).

But, I haven't had any more outbreaks since finally coming to peace with myself, so I had best get some earrings back on soon. :)

I really thought mine had started to close up as I haven't been wearing for a while.  Quite painful but I think I'm just ok.  My lobes are quite fleshy so they seem to close up very quickly.  Last time this happened I noticed a wee bit of blood which nearly made me faint.  Have to be more regular with them from now on.

I was talking with someone who was wearing what appeared to be about four small studs in each ear.  I asked her how did she know exactly where she should pierce all of those particular spots in her ears.

Silly me, she explained that she was wearing an earring set and that one required only one hole per ear!   :)

I decided to get my ears pierced to mark the passing of my father, so i'll now remember him (the good and the bad) everytime I change my earrings out..... Because he'd have hated them :p

Due to the UK lockdown I did them myself, with a sterile piercing needle and tongues, it was strangely satisfying, mostly painless and slightly crunchy. I now have so many sets of earrings that i've had to buy a special little box for them :)

@Angelaney

I'm sorry for your loss- my father passed away this year too, and he would have probably disowned me for the studs in my earlobes right now!

I hate needles- it was probably a sign of how much I wanted pierced ears that I even got them done in the first place!  good show if you did your own!

Hugs!

Oh girls, that's awful and sad about your fathers and the situation there.  I've never had any trouble with my ear piercings with my Dad, even bright pink sparkly studs!  I guess he's kinda accepting as nothing really gets mentioned.  My fingernails and toenails are both painted a shiny pink and still no comments.  I love him so and offer a lot of caregiving for him.  I won't dress trans around him though.

Thanks Jenny-  Losing my dad was hard, but not the hardest thing to deal with this year- and the balance for me is that my Mom has been quite supportive, and I've been fully dressed around her.

That's great news about your mum Caela, I always have to compromise somewhere along the line it seems.  Back to the earrings, I just have to be careful to not leave them out too long.  I do love my collection though, I think I just about have every variety out there! :)

Like it's been said. When your ears are pierced, they put special earrings in and you have to wear them for at least 6 weeks, without removing (which means 24/7). After that time your ears should be healed and you can replace the earrings with anything you like.
Of course, it also varies from person to person. My ears needed about a year to heal properly, in shorter period of time I couldn't wear anything else without getting an allergic reaction. My advice is: be patient. It's worth it.
