Hi Susan's Place Community!

I am a doctoral student and a queer, cis woman married to a trans woman. Due to my own experiences with my wife’s transition, I am completing a dissertation on the relationships of couples in which one partner is transgender and in transition, and the other partner is cisgender (Virginia Tech IRB-20-168). Specifically, I am interested in these couples’ positive and/or negative experiences with emotional intimacy (emotional closeness, bondedness, connection) during their transition. I am a trans-affirmative therapist and want to use this study to help other therapists improve how they work with other trans-cis couples during their transition.

I wanted to reach out to see if anyone here knows of any couples who might be interested in participating. If so, I would be so grateful for you to pass the below information along. Thank you!

Trans-Cis Couples Study: Couples in which one partner identifies under the transgender umbrella and is transitioning and the other partner identifies as cisgender are wanted for a research study on experiences with emotional intimacy during transition. This study is run through the Department of Human Development and Family Science at Virginia Tech. Your participation would include both you and your partner each completing a survey and participating in an individual interview regarding your relationship experiences, lasting 1.5-2 hours. Partners who are selected for an interview will be compensated with a $25 Amazon gift card, and entrance into a drawing for an additional $50 Amazon gift card. All data will be de-identified and confidential. If you have questions or would like to discuss eligibility, please email us at transciscouples@gmail.com or call Lauren Smithee at (540) 883-1214. You can access the informed consent form at: https://tinyurl.com/transciscouples
