Determining chest size pre top surgery consultation
« on: June 26, 2020, 06:28:09 am »
Hi all,

Prior to top surgery consultation I would like to know my breast size. I believe it has changed since I last wore a bra. The amount of dysphoria that going to a fitting shop would cause is astronomical.

For background, my puberty went very oddly. I am 18. I went through normal female puberty and then it started seeming like my body was backtracking. In the past 4 years most of my puberty has seemed to reverse partially, other than my hips which unfortunately got wider. Generally you’re supposed to gradually get bigger breasts throughout your teens after you’ve finished the major puberty steps.

I am 5’4 3/4 ft tall, and I stopped growing upwards at 13. I think at my very heaviest I was 130 lbs. I am currently around 110-115 lbs. So not very much of a difference, and the only place I have stretch marks is on my hips. My heaviest was when I was 13/14. After I reached what seemed like the end of all the major changes in puberty at about 14/15, it started like...reversing almost? When I was at 130 lbs my bra size was 34C or maybe 36C? For reference generally dropping a cup size requires losing 20-50 pounds, or 20% of your weight. The medical estimate for me would be that dropping 2 cup sizes from my original weight would be about 52 lbs of loss. But then last time I got fitted for a bra (which was a couple of years ago, and I would have been around 115 lbs), I got fitted to be a 36A. So I somehow lost 15 pounds and 2 cup sizes.

Anyway I give this background now as I have a top surgery consult in a little over a week. And I have no idea what my chest size currently is. I tracked down the only real bra I own which I haven’t worn in probably 2 years, and I just now tried it on. It is a 36A. When I tried it on, I did not fill the cups. So I know I must be something smaller than this, but there’s two issues with that. 1. Because of COVID19 and my dysphoria there’s no way I could go to one of those bra shops and get fitted. 2. My chest does not look like what pictures of A cup chests do. I didn’t look at like porn pictures, for example I looked at before pics of top surgery. And lots of just normal people. So it makes me confused as to what my actual size is.

I would like to know my chest size when I go in to my consultation. Is there any way I can figure this out on my own at home? Or should I like, bring the bra I own with and put it on and show the doctor...??

Thanks,
Parker

The surgeon might has to measure your chest to decide what fit for you for surgery

Parker,

In your situation, I really think that your pre op bra size is irrelevant. You said that you currently do not even fill out a 36A. This is about as minimal as anyone who wears a bra could be.

I certainly understand dysphoria as you do, but I think you should have that consult first and see what your surgeon says. You may be looking at a procedure with no visible scaring. Be happy for that.  ;)

Here is a specialty online store that sells 36AAA bras.  At major stores like Target and VS they don't carry anything smaller than an AA cup bra.  My first bra was a 32AA.

Just put down 36AA if anyone asks.

Thank you! It was very helpful to see actual pictures of what that size looks like.
