Seal Eggs (a musical recommendation)
« on: August 05, 2020, 07:04:49 pm »
It's been 3 or 4 years since I got to see Seal Eggs at a tiny show in a Denver coffeehouse.  I bought a CD and it's music I always return to when I'm in need of some hope and light.  Gwen Wolfenbarger was a transwoman who at the time was still in college down in Colorado Springs (not an easy place to be trans btw).  I've honestly never seen so much musical creativity and talent in somebody who was still so young.

She made her music by looping and layering her voice, and adding in elements of electronics and harp.  It's ambient, but it's also something you can listen to with your full attention.  Some of her songs are about dysphoria, but there's also a lot of hope in her music.

I think she's moved on to Portland, and hasn't released anything since this one album.  I sure wish for more though!  The album is called Sunday Will Be Snow and you can hear it on spotify:
