In search of facial feminization surgery in southern california
« on: September 23, 2020, 02:12:00 pm »
Hi! I'm new to susans and I hope that I am not posting this in the wrong forum so please correct me if I'm in the wrong place.
I came out as transgender three years ago and have been on hrt since then. I have legally changed my name and gender and am waiting for my insurance to approve my bottom surgery. I know that I want to have some ffs afterward but the sheer number of surgeons out there is overwhelming. I will more than likely be paying for the ffs out of my own pocket if that makes any difference.  I have been reading the personal accounts here in the forum and I was just wandering how to start looking for a surgeon. How did some of you start this process of finding your surgeon?  Are there questions I should prepare in advance? I would like to plan ahead and have a surgeon picked out in advance once I recover from my bottom surgery. Is there anyone that could point me in the direction I should go?
Thank you, Stephanie

Dr. Harrison Lee in Beverly Hills is the guy!  He did my FFS and changed my life.  Pls check him out.  Others include dr keojampa, Dr. Toby Mayer among others, but Dr. Lee is the guy!

Good luck!

Dr. Lee didn't have much in the way of Trans Before and After pictures. And, based on his gallery, the majority of his work is with people of Asian descent. I would want to see a bunch more examples of his besides Caitlyn Jenner and the one woman's video, also Asian and only 19, on his site...

hi again :)
just a quick update. i have an appointment with Dr. Keojampa in a couple of months so i'm looking forward to that. I don't know if I mentioned it here or elsewhere but I am older than most people transitioning as I am sixty. I hope that doesn't put me over the limit  :) I guess I'm trying to make up for lost time and I hope it isn't too late. I will post back as I learn more. Again, I want to thank everyone for their input. It is wonderful knowing there are others who have been down the same path and can share their wisdom. I don't feel so alone.
Stephanie :)

I have a friend who did her FFS earlier this year.  She was 71.  In other words it's never to late.  ;-)

I transitioned over the last three years starting at the age of 70!  HRT,FFS, GRS, BA, I did them all and am so delighted with the results and me!  It seems that your health is more of an issue regarding having surgeries like FFS rather than age.  Age should not be a barrier, although in my search for a GRS surgeon one Thai doctor did turn me done because of it.  I am grateful that I have excellent health.  You can do it!

I had my FFS this January at 72 years and 11 1/3 months.  I was up and about within the first week.  Depending on your overall heath it can be a large piece of cake!  In California most insurances cover GCS as required by State law.  I am not sure about FFS.  However, if you join Kaiser permanente, they do cover both, and BA I think.  So, it may be worth 2 years with Kaiser to get most the costs covered.  Something to think about!

Good luck  ... Allie

It is interesting how effective FFS is in making older people look about 20 years younger. I have similar results. I look 50, but I am really 71.

FFS should really be called Age Defying Surgery;D

Hello it's me again ! :)
Thank you again to everyone.  I truly appreciate the encouragement.
Wow ! bonkatie ! The before and after photos really show a change. Someday I hope to put my before and after photos up. ;D
As I am researching for my future ffs (after my recovery from bottom surgery), I am thinking up questions to ask the surgeons when I do get my consultations. One of the questions that I know I am going to ask is about the fees. I know the cost of ffs can be variable due to each person's unique needs, but for those of you that have had ffs did you encounter fees that you weren't aware of? I'm not asking how much you spent (I know that is personal), but additional costs such as anesthesia, hospital stay, miscellaneous expenses. I am budgeting for this (I will be self-pay) and I just want to have as much info regarding costs and what types of expenses outside of the surgeons fee might I expect. Any insight from anyone would help me to be as prepared as possible.

I self payed for GCS and FFS.  It is important when consulting with a surgeon to ask for all the associated cost like you mentioned.  I am sure that this information is readily available to you.  What you might need to research for yourself is the cost for staying in the area and for how long after surgery if you are not local.
