What to do about weight?

Seeking advice on how to manage diet, exercise, and my body weight.

- I started Estradiol two days ago and am likely to remain on it for the foreseeable future
- Before lockdown I was pretty thin, but not like underweight. I put on a significant amount of weight over lockdown which I have yet to lose but am still kind of thin.
- This is in spite of the fact that I eat a very fat-rich diet
- And that I do relatively little exercise. I used to go swimming weekly but that was postponed for lockdown and I have yet to come back to it. I go to the gym at school for an hour weekly and every so often I go for walks with my family. But overall not much exercise.
- I want to gain weight in the appropriate places in order to gain a more female body shape, but I don't want to endanger my health or end up gaining weight in the wrong places so that I'd have to burn it off again.
- I currently am almost fully healthy and have little to no long term health problems which would affect this (nasal allergies and some difficult-to-explain gastrointestinal difficulties, likely a mild case of irritable bowel syndrome although as a child it was much more problematic than it is now) although I carry genetics for some health conditions such as type 2 diabetes mellitus and Coeliac disease which I want to avoid developing. I currently have no dietary requirements of any sort, although I am quite a "picky eater" (namely there is a vast array of foods which I find strongly displeasurable to eat and when trying a new food will more often than not fail to enjoy it)
- Whilst my current diet isn't very good I intend to improve it as an adult when I have more control over what I eat. But I honestly do not think I will make too much time for exercise as this is not something I enjoy.

Congratulations on starting estradiol. I hope it goes well for you. I too am interested in gaining weight in the right places, but I'm not yet on HRT.

If you don't exercise much, you're just going to have to balance calories consumed against calories expended. It's a pretty simple equation, but difficult to monitor due to the lag time.

You can't directly control where the weight goes, if you're talking about fat deposits. The hormones will have an effect over time. Just eat enough but not too much so that there is some excess to deposit. Cut back if fat is adding more than you want.

I exercise a lot since I like to get outdoors where I live and walk, hike, run and bike. This makes it much easier for me to control my weight since it gives me another handle that I can use in the equation.

You may not need to eat more intentionally. The body physiology will tell you whether you should eat more or less.

Managing the bodyweight is my life-time goal. My ideal weight is 65 kg, but during the past 15 years, it has oscillated from 66 to 73 kg, although I am a regular runner, hiker, and bicyclist. Eating less is easier than intense exercise in losing weight.

BTW, I am very hungry now.
