Has anyone had their first appiontment at UK GIC this year?
« on: December 06, 2020, 04:22:29 pm »
Hi All,

Has anyone who was waiting to see the GIC this year for their first appointment actually had one?

I was wondering how many patients they start a year

I got my letter from the Laurels at the beginning of 2019 with an estimated intake date of 2022 but I was wondering how badly covid will push that date back

Thanks

Carla

Looks like they have updated the webpage at The Laurels Exeter (here's and excerpt)

We are working with our commissioners to shape our service over the next three years so that we can reduce waiting times.  We are also exploring ways in which we can provide additional support to people while they are waiting.

Please do not contact the clinic to enquire about waiting times as our staff are very busy and we cannot provide any more information than is provided here.  Thank you.

If you have received confirmation that your referral has been accepted we will not remove you from the waiting list.

Current waiting information: (as at April 2021)

The number of people currently waiting for their initial assessment: 2,702
Number of people joining the waiting list for an assessment in the last month: 67
Number of people currently receiving treatment: 715
We are currently booking appointments for people who were referred to the service in June 2016
Number of people who have completed their treatment in last month: 23

I did contact them as they don't respond to emails and I was a polite as possible trying to find out how long from first appointment to surgery would it take considering I was allready diagnosed and on hormones and had had and oriecheotomy they said it would mean redoing all the steps i have allready done privately and in Holland rwgardless of my current status (so more bites of the apple)

Based on being referred in September 2018 I'm guessing best estimate June 2023 with op maybe 2 years later

But it is free!!!!

Sadly you are probably in the right ballpark there. I was referred in 2017 and have finally got through the initial diagnosis stage - turns out I am trans and do have gender dysphoria - go figure!
