Topic: How long after HRT did you decide to change your name legally?

Ladies,

I have been on HRT for 9 months. Having good results.. Was wondering how long you waited to change your name? I filed last September. Was told in January I wouldn’t hear from the court until the fall because the judges were not seeing these cases in my town. Last week I got a letter that just had to be signed and notorized. I will have my new name legally changed in the next 4 weeks. I am excited, scared and am not going back.. I love my new name and it fits me. I was trying to time it for this summer when I plan to go full time. Now it looks like everything will be changed much sooner. Which is awesome! I am so excited to not have to go before a judge. Just wondering how long others took.

Changed my name long before starting HRT. I completed my social transition before I sought out medical intervention.

Started to change my name a month before HRT but due to the solicitor cocking it up it was a few months later before legally done though I was using it before.

I changed my name legally some 3 months before going full time. It was so affirming and I could see no reasons for not doing it! When I got the deed poll back I felt oh so wonderful!

I changed my name almost exactly a year after I changed my hormones.

I legally changed my name about 10 months after GCS and almost 2 years after the start of HRT.

Okay, why did I wait so long, you may ask?  I was taking my time to wrap up a few personal issues. Everybody has their own issues. I did what I felt was the appropriate thing to do at the time. In retrospect, it really did not matter one way or the other.

Or maybe, I was just waiting to get the proverbial Round Tuit.

I kicked off the name change process in month 10 of HRT and it took two months to go through all the steps...this was all pre-pandemic.

I probably wish that I had started a couple months earlier, but I was balancing a lot of considerations at that time. But I think anywhere 6-12 months after starting HRT is a good time to do it. It forces you to potentially get out of your comfort zone and push through changes that you know you likely want to make anyway.

I changed my name about 10 months after starting HRT, and 10 days before going full-time. My first day at work after having my name changed I was greeted with 'good morning (dead name)'. I knew I could not put up with that for long, so I arranged my coming-out announcement as soon as possible.

I changed my name 12 months after starting HRT, and a month after going full time.

I timed my name change with 2 things:

1). Having the money to pay for my FFS and having it scheduled.
2). Having my electrolysis to the point where I knew I would have to skip for a few months due to FFS recovery and I still felt that even if I had to shave then I would be okay. I wanted to be to past an initial clearing from an electrolysis perspective.

Hormone therapy didn't even enter into the equation for me but I was getting to the point where hiding the boobs was getting tougher.

In the end none of that mattered. I came out to my boss, was fired on the spot and walked out of the building. I had my FFS scheduled for a few months in the future, so I called and rescheduled and wouldn't you know they had a spot 3 weeks from the day I called, so off I went. After I got back and got the swelling down then I filed my name change since I knew I would have to get new pictures for my drivers licenses and other things as well.

One year.  It was not intentional do change my name after a year, it was just the way things worked out.

Everyone's mileage depends on their own goals and circumstances. In my case, I submitted my name change paperwork 15 months after starting HRT and one month after going 24/7.

I started HRT in March of 2015,
Went Full-time in December 2016 and quit my male-mode executive accounting job.

I changed my Legal name almost immediately after going full time because I had to legally change my CPA and Financial Advisor licenses and certificates.

In January 2017    I then relocated and started my new woman owned small business in a small Alaska town that is now my home.
