Advice for Rhinoplasty in Turkey
« on: April 09, 2021, 05:17:43 am »
Hi does anyone have any experience of having rhinoplasty or other medical procedures in turkey? I much prefer their work to the UK and European FFS surgeons rhinoplasty results, but am unsure if it's safe or even legal to travel there as a pre op transgender woman. Also if there are issues entering the country with a female passport, or if it's safe and do I need to dress androgynously when there etc.. ..

Any advice from anyone who has experience of surgery there or who live there would be much appreciated.

Right now is not a good time to visit Turkey. There is too much political instability for me to feel safe there. Check with your country's State Department for information on travel to Turkey.

In my opinion, the results you get from any surgical procedure depend on the skills of the surgeon, not where he or she lives. Any one country can have a multitude of good or bad surgeons. I would check each surgeons individual website for more information on expected results.

Hi Rakel
Thanks you for taking the time to reply. I do agree about the safety issue and am happy to wait until the Government advise that it's safe to travel. I have looked for quite a while and already had rhinoplasty and I really do like the style of 2 or 3 surgeons work in Turkey and one in Portugal. The UK has some good surgeons but to pay out a second time I want to get exactly what I want as opposed to settling for what's available. So if im lucky enough to get some feedback and it's positive with regards to safety and possible issues Im happy to wait, but obviously if the feedback is bad then I will look towards my second option. Thank you though for the sound advise it is very much appreciated and taken on board as I wasn't aware that there was conflict in Turkey. x

I never heard about turkey being transphobic or anything but I could be completely clueless maybe ask the surgeon if he’s ok with doing work on a trans person. I live in America and I think turkey does really good nosejobs my friend had a nose job in America but she’s unhappy with it and wants to do hers in turkey maybe because they are more extreme and do a doll nose more than America also Turkey nosejobs are cheaper. I did my nose job in America and luckily for me I like my result

I've had my hair done in istanbul two years ago, shortly after the big issue. I was picked up at the airport, put into 4 star hotel and later on delivered to airport again. All in all, very good experience. Nothing to worry about, besides catching covid.

Thank you both for the replies that's very kind of you, that sounds really promising Peeptoe, have spoken to a surgeons contact and they have had quite a number of transgender patients, so think Turkey it is. Your experience sounds really promising, think I will try booking for 2022 so fingers crossed Covid cases drop, + we cant travel out of the UK at present.

Hey Cara, wondering if you have been to Turkey for your nose job, since the time you've written that post.

I am also looking for a trans-friendly surgeon with that Turkish style rhinoplasty (i.e. pointy, slightly upturned, small nostrils)

Btw, was wondering where you went to for that hair transplant (curious how much? for how many follicles?)

Hi Savannitahp

I have my rhinoplasty surgery on the 12th of August, so will do an update after on this post as to how the experience goes. The surgeon I am going with is Dr Sercan Göde, I did thoroughly do my research as regards finding a surgeon like you said, that does the style of surgery that I like and that I feel really confident with, so fingers crossed all goes well.

I had dental implants in Turkey three months ago. The cost in the UK would have been (for me and my wife) would have been 45k, in Turkey it was 12k.

The facilities, and the service, were fantastic. The surgeons get so much practice.

I sat next to a girl on the plane back who had had rhinoplasty and she was very pleased (don't know the name of her surgeon but it was in Antalya) The group she met up with at the hospital included one trans girl and she also had a good experience.

Thanks to everyone who took the time to advise prior to my surgery its very much appreciated.
I see so many posts on here where someone has asked for advise and there is no follow up after, which I think is really important for future members browsing and looking for similar advice.

OK. Im now post op rhinoplasty and back home for a week.

The surgery was in Izmir, Turkey.

The experience was really positive, I had no issues at all going through airport security, from people out there or at the hospital. I did worry about traveling to Turkey alone and knowing that for the week I was out there I wouldn't be able to wear any makeup which really gives me confidence to face the world, but it was ok. In fact now im back home its given me the confidence to go out without makeup on here, well until my nose heals and then we will see ; )

The day after surgery I was released and taken back to the hotel and spent my days wondering around Izmir under the shade of a lovely sun umbrella.  You get the usual stares because your nose has a cast on and you have a gauze swab taped under your nose, but there are so many people in the same boat as you it's, just curiosity I guess.  Despite the fact im a 6ft transgender women towering above 99% of people there.

I was surprised how beautiful a place Izmir is and how lovely the people there are. The hospital experience was also very positive where you have a skype group chat with the team looking after you, so any issues you can contact them directly, fortunately I had none.

The surgeon himself I have nothing but praise for. I met him prior to surgery to discuss what I wanted and went through everything and he also advised on what would and wouldn't suit my face, basically I wanted my nose to appear as feminine as possible whilst fitting in with my face. I have noticed when you speak to a lot of FFS surgeons the advise and goal is purely to achieve certain angles to make your nose appear within the female range as its called.

This experience was completely different and although I know things can and do go wrong both in surgery and post op in healing, I had 100% confidence after speaking to the surgeon who really seemed invested in getting the best result for his patients. I felt the same way when he visited post surgery and later in the week when I saw him again. I wanted a natural but more feminine looking result and from the table pic it appears that's exactly what I got. My nose is extremely swollen now as it was with my first surgery, so it's just a time thing now waiting for the swelling to go down.

There are good and bad surgeons in Turkey, the same as anywhere else so please do your research before picking one, seek out patients and follow them and ask about their experience before making any decisions etc etc..... But don't be afraid to consider Turkey as a potential place for surgery if your transgender, the prices can be very competitive and there are some of the best certainly rhinoplasty surgeons in the world there. My surgery was between 4 and 5 hours long which is longer than my previous rhino and brow combined and the surgeon spent an hour just on my nostrils alone to try and achieved the desired result.

I was due to have breast augmentation at the same time with a different surgeon, but the communication experience with that surgeon was completely different and I would basically have just gotten what the surgeon wanted to give me, so opted not to go ahead, despite the amazing price.

Well hopefully if someone is searching in the future about advise for surgery in Turkey it will help, the same as the amazing members on here helped me when I asked for advise, thanks once again. x
