I am new to the site (see my intro!) and am proud to say I've made my first appointment. In poking around here, I am truly amazed, grateful, and thankful for all the posts. There is almost too much good-stuff to read.

I have to say I am happy to the point of giddy.  Reaching out was the hard part. Since doing a screening call I've been on cloud 9-- it went really well. I am trying to keep my excitement in check. I have a mental checklist of sorts, like a list of secrets to be let out, shared. There is a part of me sorting out what to wear. If I have a fear it seems to be crossing some line that'd DQ me out of the gate. Then again I remind myself I don't have a destination yet. I am in my mid-50s.. and am figuring it out. I even decided to start a journal of sorts.

As I said, there is so much good information here to be thankful for. I don't feel alone at all.

Dear Jennifer:
This is very exciting news that you reported... what is the date of your appointment?

Certainly taking the first step in your official transition journey can give you both a nervous feeling and an excited feeling, all at the same time !!!.  ::)

I will be eagerly following your updates as you feel comfortable sharing them.

HUGS and best wishes as you continue on.
Danielle

Hi Jennifer,

Welcome to the journey! I began in my late 50's and it sounds like you are much farther along now than I was then.

I keep a private journal to record my thoughts, revelations, issues, incidents, etc. For me it is hard to manage paper so I do it in a secured Evernote notebook but I know many people like the flexibility of a hard copy journal.

I also have a notepad that I bring to my therapy appointments. I write in advance things I want to bring up because it's easy to forget in the moment. And I take notes during the session because I usually forget otherwise.

I hope you make a good connection with your therapist. Don't feel bad if it doesn't feel right. Just try someone else if you have options. There are countless combos of personality and methodology and not all will be right for you. I've seen a number of different therapists over the years, about half being only one session. I like who I'm with now.

Nope. Not hardly alone in the slightest.

I've been so very fortunate to have found a place to write and read and hear from so many wonderful and caring people these last few years. Hope you find it so as well.
