Have you eaten eggs that did not come from chickens?
« on: July 02, 2021, 10:15:10 pm »
Have you ever eaten any eggs besides chicken eggs?

Not fish roe or caviar, but I mean eggs with hard shells.

Were any of these “other eggs” you have eaten actually tasty?  How were they prepared to eat?  Just as if they were chicken eggs?

Did these eggs taste good?

Were they more expensive than chicken eggs?

They have a stronger flavour than chicken eggs, saying that the caged layer eggs are rubbish with very pale yolks so I buy free range ones.

I have eaten Turkey eggs. They taste the same as chicken eggs, but are much larger. Think of an egg about double the weight of a large chicken egg.

I buy and eat organic free range chicken eggs.  For some reason, they always are brown eggs, so they must come from a particular type of chicken.

@ChrissyRyan
Dear Chrissy:
Your are correct about brown eggs coming   "....from a particular type of chicken."
My family farm in Montana raised chickens and sold eggs so I know the answer to your question.

Brown eggs are laid by chickens with red ears and red feathers.

The chickens that lay White eggs are laid by chickens with white
ears and white feathers.

The chickens that lay the Brown eggs are generally larger in size and consume
more feed... therefore, somewhat bigger eggs and more expensive eggs.

I hate to break it to the avid dieters....  Nutritionally brown eggs and white eggs are "about" the same if they are the same weight and size.... however what the chickens eat does affect the nutritional value of the egg somewhat.

HUGS,
Danielle

When we lived on the lake, ducks laid their eggs next to the back porch where we fed them. Those eggs tasted better than any farm raised duck eggs. The farm raised ones dont seem to taste any different than chicken eggs. The same goes for goose eggs.

So if the following is true
Brown eggs are laid by chickens with red ears and red feathers.

The chickens that lay White eggs are laid by chickens with white
ears and white feathers.

What colour are the chickens that lay the blue Araucana eggs ?
This ain't a song for the broken-hearted
No silent prayer for the faith-departed
I ain't gonna be just a face in the crowd
You're gonna hear my voice
When I shout it out loud
It's my life
It's now or never
I ain't gonna live forever
I just want to live while I'm alive
(It's my life)
My heart is like an open highway
Like Frankie said
I did it my way
I just want to live while I'm alive
It's my life

Reference the following:
Araucana Chicken Guide: All Your Questions Answered
         https://bestfarmanimals.com/araucana-chicken-guide-all-your-questions-answered/

"Thanks to Araucana chickens, we can enjoy the blue and green eggs. Today, many chicken breeds and crossbreeds lay a tinted blue or green egg because of Araucana chicken ancestors.

Did you know?

All blue colored eggs can trace their ancestry back to an Araucana ancestor. The Ameraucana chicken also lays blue eggs, but is a direct ancestor of the Araucana chicken.

Araucana chickens are extremely rare in the United States. Most of the Araucana chickens sold in the U.S. are not 100% purebred. That’s because the Araucana breed has a fatal gene that causes a high mortality rate in the chicks. Because of that gene, most Araucana chickens that are sold are not purebred. "
