I've wanted to be a woman all my life. I'm even a lady in my dreams. I'm sure you understand. And finally, there is nothing left to stop me from finally doing it - no more attachments to my old life.

I can finally be the woman I've always wanted to be.

I'm poor, but it won't be a problem for at least a bus ticket. I have no possessions I care about other than my diary. But I heard you can get this done on state funding in some places. I could never afford that otherwise.

So... um... what's the best state to go to? What's the application like? I have no idea what I'm up against. I mean, my plan is to change my gender on the governments dime. Ouch. But it's the only way. Yeah, I've known since I was a kid, etc....

Any advice would be cool.

Dear Swiftcal,

For Federal agencies consider Medicare or the VA if you have military service.

A few people who have tried Medicare have run into many road blocks. Medicare is run by each state differently. I have heard, but cannot confirm that California and Massachusetts are the most likely to fund surgery.

The VA is now doing counseling, lab tests and hormone therapy. They are also considering surgery, but this remains to be seen.

By far and away the most common way for a person without gobs of money is to go to work for a company that has a good health insurance policy. Each company is different and the only way to be sure is to read the insurance policy benefits plan.

Keep in mind that surgery is only one part of a complete transition. You must also consider therapy, hormones, lab tests, doctor visits and facial electrolysis for late transitioners such as myself. To date, I have spent more on facial electrolysis than I did on surgery and I paid for everything myself.

However you decide to transition, it will be a slow process. It will take several years to successfully transition unless you are a very lucky person and need little done in order to transition. Make a plan, work the plan and don't look back.

Take care.  :-*

Thanks. Rakel. I'm real excited about it now that I can finally do it, and I've made the decision. As a guy, I'd make a pretty cute girl, too. And the only people I've ever really cared about in life where my guy friends. And I always wished I could do something more for them. You meet a lot of good guys that just really need help.

I guess I'm gonna drive to Cali if the laws will help.
