Limited US Passports
« on: October 27, 2021, 05:35:32 am »
Being a UK/US dual citizen living in the UK has presented a few interesting bureaucratic hurdles during my transition.

While the UK government will issue replacement 10-year passports with amended name and gender markers fairly easily, the process with updating my US one has been more complex.

The US system only offers limited 2-year passports for those who are in transition but have not yet 'completed' it. That policy combined with the slow NHS process here has resulted in me working through two limited US passports since starting my transition. But now being 'completed' (there is no definition for this) post-GRS, I've finally got myself a fresh, full 10-year passport!

No more awkward questions from overzealous border agents yay.

If anyone find themselves in a similar position feel free to PM me. I've skipped a ton of detail in this post, but I had real fun getting the correct paperwork from the correct people, on the correct paper, with the correct words to satisfy the rubber-stampers. X

Today, still wanted by the government I survive as a soldier of fortune. If you have a problem, if no one else can help, and if you can find me....maybe you can hire Sarah EL

There is quite a bit of guidance on the US web portal, CV just take your time and review the requirements.

The staff at the US Embassy in London were very focused on the details when applying for my limited passports, but seemed very relaxed about things for this latest/final process. X
