Australia - Victoria gender change
« on: November 07, 2021, 01:48:35 am »

Hi all

I'm just about to embark on the Gender change for the birth certificate here in Australia.:(

So the Process here in victoria is screwed up I don't know if it is worse in other states or overseas.

requirements to change gender.

must be born in victoria.
must be registered in victoria
Must be over 18 years of age or have parental consent

so online

- fill in details
- complete and upload a statutory declaration ( signed and witnessed by GP) and a supporting statement ( the statement you must have it signed by someone that's known you for 12 months)
- finish uploading and completing the form online and pay $110 + GST
-  post or hand in the old Birth certificate to the government body.

is there any help in this to make it easier lol

thanks

Ashleylov

Ashleylov, the process in Victoria is considerably easier than most of the other states where you may also have to have had gender surgery! The cost is actually $112.20 plus express postage, and I think the Stat Dec is signed by a JP! If you are changing name and gender together, they may do it all for the one price. I changed my name in February '20 and my gender in May '20 and they charged for the name change but not for the gender change.

Good luck!

Hi all and Allie,

I have an update, I recently sorted it all out and the birth certificate is all done and finished now waiting for the time to process it.

So what I did was did the Stat Dec and supporting document via your local GP. you then have to send the original via post or express post and also do your identification Drivers licence and passport and both have to be certified.

after that pay the online fee and then wait.

but thank you all for your help.

Did you also ask for a History Certificate (Change of Name Certificate)? Centrelink require this when making your name and gender change with them, and it is usually issued at the same time as the new Birth Certificate.

Hugs,
