Switched therapists, I really feel good about that decision.

Brooke Renee:
I think I recall reading advice on this forum about being flexible and willing to shop around for the right therapist.  Good advice!  The therapist that I started with was nice but she seem somewhat inexperienced with trans issues.  She was the one that suggested I present as a woman a few days a week at work and see how it goes.  I tried to explain that once out you can't really go back in.  Her response seemed very detached from reality.  Oh, and she forgot my name during one of our sessions.  That was a bit distressing.  Seriously, it was a ZOOM session, if she gets names wrong then have a whiteboard offscreen and put the clients name on it.

Enough complaining about that.. Moving on.  My new therapist is at a clinic that specializes in the LGBT community.  She is young but I feel that I can open up and she will understand as she has many trans clients.

I guess my point of this post is don't settle, it's your mental wellbeing, it's your money, and it's your time.  Give your new therapist a few sessions but don't hesitate to move on if you do not click.

Hugs,
Brooke

I am so happy that you found a better therapist.  :eusa_dance:

Sometimes I wonder how some people get a licence to practice.  :icon_blahblah:

I speak from experience. Many years ago, the therapists of the day told me that all I needed was a better role model and my dysphorias would go away.  :eusa_doh: I wish it were that easy.

A therapist that is properly trained in gender issues is essential to getting the best advice to help you determine what is your real issue. There is just too much nonsense out there.

Dear Brooke:
I am so very glad that you took the step to move on and find a more compatible therapist.
In matters of our healthcare and medical needs we have have be our own advocates to make
sure that we get the care and the treatment that we desire.

Thank  you for sharing your thoughts...
HUGS and best wishes,
Danielle

Thank you!  We are all trying so hard to figure it out and even though well intentioned, we don't need someone that may be adding confusion to the chaos.

Hi Danielle,

I guess I have become more assertive in being my own advocate as I have aged.  I won't be offensive but I will not hesitate to move on if something is not working.

I really appreciate how you bring so much positive energy to the forum.  So many of us (me) are trying to find peace and  way to survive, you are a beacon of light that gives us strength to keep trying.  Thank you!

Hugs,
Brooke
