ImAllie:
I made contact with my top choice for a gender therapist in my state… after all the research I could do, some very helpful advice from people on this site, etc… and finally sitting down on Monday and writing an email about who I am and what I was hoping to get out of therapy as a 55-year old who was assigned male at birth.

She responded with words that felt amazing to read:

“Just so you know, I am a gender specialist and at least 90% of my clients are someplace in the community. So I am happy to work with you and be of help.”

We are now comparing dates and times to set up our first (virtual) appointment.

I’m open to what comes next… whatever that is. My general emotion about all of this is “calm”… which would not have been what I would have guessed? But I’ll take it!

ImAllie:
Thanks Danielle! Will do! I’m sure I’ll mostly post about in the member blog I started… but I thought I should do a post here for folks who don’t look at those things and could use some hopeful and positive reinforcement!

So I’ll try to keep updating things here too!

Rachel Montgomery:
For me, that was a difficult call.  I assume it was hard for you too, so congratulations on your courage.  Best wishes to you as you open yourself to the world.

Thanks Rachel, but I did it via email … which, since I had that option, seemed the easier route.  So the first “call” (might be an actual call or a video chat) is what comes next. I imagine that will be another iteration more challenging.  Still… onward, right?
