Ladies,

I had my Orchiectomy yesterday, what effects did you experience after surgery? Both physical and psychological?? I know my strength will go down. My body fat will keep relocating.. but  what else should I expect??

Doc you have mood swings?  Hot flashes?? If so how long??

Any help is appreciated!

Hugs

Rebecca,

Hot flashes and mood swings are symptoms of low estrogens.

Testosterone is different. Here is a list of low Testosterone symptoms.

Low sex drive.
Erectile dysfunction.
Decreased sense of well-being.
Depressed mood.
Difficulties with concentration and memory.
Fatigue.
Moodiness and irritability.
Loss of muscular strength.

You may or may not experience these symptoms. I would expect these symptoms to last a very long time, at least until you start taking hormones appropriate for your internal sense of self. If you are taking an estrogen, then expect your estrogens to be much more effective.

Raked,

Thanks

Hi Rebecca,

Massive hot flashes for about 3 weeks. The first was, like, 'whoa'. Quite unnerving.

Definite drop in energy for a while.

Not so much on the mood swings. I felt good. I was heard at the airport with arms aloft declaring, 'I left my balls behind in Thailand'  :D

Watch those hot flashes. But try not to worry about them.

xx

Hi, congrats on the surgery. I had my orchi about 3 years ago. I am super happy I had it done but it did have some unanticipated effects. I didn't heal well and nobody is really sure exactly why.

I have pain at the incision site still which feels like a sharp pinch in two different places. Initially everybody told me that the pain would go away over time and that I needed to give it at least 1 to 2 years. Over that time I became super bothered that I was in such bad pain, and I realized I despised how I looked down there. Yes the orchi made me have less bulk, but things are still very bulky. It made tucking finally possible for me, and my wardrobe expanded, but there is still quite a bit to tuck. And that if I was going to experience such difficult chronic pain it really sucked that I still hated how I looked.

Within six months of my orchi I had met with a different GCS surgeon for full bottom surgery. I am currently 37 days out from finally getting that procedure. Yay. I don't think I would be where I am at right now without having first gotten the orchi. So, um yeah, I'm happy I had it, but it did have unanticipated effects.

Oh, as far as hormones go and those effects...... I loved getting off Spiro! I don't know that I noticed it so much though as I also switched HRT dr's right after my orchi. My new dr and I really changed up my HRT at that point. I began taking progesterone and we raised my E levels dramatically through the use of implanted pellets. I liked that my body felt like it wasn't fighting the T factories anymore and I have really appreciated that. Oh and the psychological effects of knowing that even if I couldn't get E any more that I would not ever be forced back into accepting T as a default hormone, that was huge!

Uh, good luck in healing, I am sure you will be like 99.99999% of the people who get this surgery and heal perfectly fine!
