Nails
« on: July 27, 2022, 02:59:51 am »
Hi ! I’ve been getting my nails done every two weeks or so with a gel manicure. For right now I like the clear nail color look. My salon costs $35. Getting regular manicures has definitely made me more conscious of how I pick up things. So from that perspective it has improved my feminine mannerisms.

How often do you get your nails done?
In a salon or do it yourself?
What type of manicure do you get?
What is your favorite brand of nail polish?
What is your nail favorite color?
How much does a manicure done in a salon cost?

Thanks for your reply!

Hugs,

Holly

I can only afford to have them done every 4-5 weeks, I have shellac gels and go to the same nail specialist so I am not sure of the brand but it has a wide range of colours and extras. I change the colour each time depending on my mood but mainly reds, pinks, purples and berry colours.

I have a full manicure and it costs £48 + £6 for soak off

That's a good point, never thought about it like that.  By the way I also tried growing nails out but I couldn't take to it, way too impractical.  Happy as they are now.

I try to keep them as long as possible, but as I work often with large and very heavy vacuum tube power amplifiers my right hand has accidents. They are quite good at the moment but my next appointment is Thursday so really hope I do not break one or more before then

Yes a broken nail is a disaster! Sometimes I forget and become careless in handling stuff.

I admit there is something very pleasing to me hearing the sound of my nails as I am typing.

Since painting my nails I cut them so they are only a little long.  I figure the pretty colors makes them feminine enough.

I could grow my nails out a quarter to a half inch long. I also discovered during my first transition attempt that using nail polish and acetone weakens even my genetically strong nails. They would break even at short lengths. I am not out yet on my second attempt. My family does not let me use nail polish at least yet. I prefer pretty colors to having long nails anyway. For those that can grow their nails it is best to leave the polish alone to keep them strong. I keep them short anyway. I discovered long nails do not like my satin sheets either. Any non smooth edge of the nail will catch them and try to break them.

I’ve just recently started to explore my feminine side so not too much experience here, but I love it when my toe nails are painted. It makes me feel extra sexy.

I’ll do it myself
Open to hearing others salons experiences and recommendations
No favorite brand yet
Love red as it just pops, but purple it really cute

@Cwillytr

Dear Nicky:
As you are initially exploring your feminine side, you can certainly experiment
with applying nail polish on your fingernails and your toe nails yourself.

With a little practice you should be able to do a decent good looking job.

Obviously it is hard to beat a professional Nail Salon job with Gel Polish or Acrylics ....
... but it might be wise to do it yourself for a while and save your money until you
discover what you really desire..

Hugs, and best wishes to you.

Danielle,

Yes, I’ve been getting better when it comes to painting my toenails and it is just really fun and cute to me. What are some of your favorite colors that you’ve used before?

And I think I’m a little bit away from going to a salon job or even fake nails, but when I do I’ll probably take one of my female friends to help it be more comfortable the first couple of times.

Thanks, Nicky

Dear Nicky:
Regarding colors of nail polish that I like, my favorite is PINK... soft/light PINK is nice
but sometimes I like the Hot Pink..... and then next in line is Bright RED.
I have tried other colors such as Purple, Blue and Green ... and while those colors certainly
stand out when others look at my fingers and toes...  they are not my favorite.
The Glitter polish is interesting but not what I often chose.

I do not go to a nail salon often but when I do go, I treat myself to getting Gel Polish which
lasts longer and is more durable.

Regarding taking a female friend with you when you go to a Nail or Hair Salon is a good
thing to do.... also when going shopping or just about anywhere, "Safety in Numbers"

Have fun experimenting!!!!
HUGS,
Danielle

Any shade of Pink is definitely on the list, but hot pink is the perfect girly girl color that can never do wrong. I’m also looking to try white, blue and orange too hehe.

Thank you for all the insight also.

I love the pinks and berry colours, currently wearing a bright pink with glitter in it.
As Christmas starts up I will be changing to the berry colours.

I love going to the nail parlour, it is part of a hair salon. I am a regular and have the same technician each time, we have a lovely natter throughout. I have had to book the next 3 appointments as she is getting very booked up for the season.

It’s not scary. Look on the website some actual say they are trans friendly. And if you do not know what you want just ask for a suggestion. I do not know about the impersonal places that are common in the US though. I am in the UK

Me and my daughter are booked into a nail bar tomorrow to both have a full set of acrylics done.. can't wait.. Love having my nails looking nice..
I had my first acrylics in the USA.. and tbh, I don't think anyone is that bothered 'who' you are as long as you pay...
Whilst I do look okay (and pass).. my hands/fingers are quite rounded (not large but fat?!?).. and they had to use the largest size acrylics on me.. but hey, they did fit.. and they looked  A>>W>>E>>S>>O>>M>>E!!!!!!!!!!!

Hi Sarah,

Congratulations on having your nails done!

I've now changed to DIY.  I was doing them way back this way so it's time to give it another go.  I'm liking various shades of pink and Essie is my preferred brand so far.

During my last salon session I had my toes painted a really nice fuchsia (Morgan Taylor) and they've lasted so long.  I break out my mules as much as possible!!

Interesting topic, thanks to everyone that's posted!

I got lazy with trimming mine. I have the white of my nails about a quarter of an inch now. Mommy has not fussed yet. I am surprised.

I love wearing nail polish and its very rare my nails do not have some sort of nail polish on them. For me it makes my hands and toes look feminine. It something get to bond with my mother over, as she also loves getting her nail done and i love going with her to the salon. My adopted 3 year old daughter, also loves getting her nails painted like mommy's, she loves pink, so i paint some pink on her nails as a treat.

My hands
I get gel manicures done at a salon, I try to go every 3 weeks. As part of the service, they treat my nails to keep them healthy before reapplying the gel and putting some color on them. I love red or maroon nail polish and also I love the french manicure look, with white tips. But I will wear about any color nail polish, except pink. I don't like the color pink, I have virtually no pink clothes either. I normally get some nail art as well. The lady at the salon is very talented and she draws some amazing art.

I enjoy my salon time, it some nice girly time. I keep my nails relatively long, my husband loves it, when I scratch his back with them.

My feet

I do this myself, I prefer dark colors on my toes. My favs are dark green, dark blue, black, red, maroon. I also love the metallic colors with the mirror effect,  as well, in my fav colors.. but my fav metallic color is the silver, with the mirror effect, it looks amazing.

I mentioned earlier in this post, I dont like pink nail polish, for my feet I will make an exception for a dusty pink color (only that shade of pink) its color I often wear on my toe nails. The dusty pink color was something my mother introduced me too, she loves it and when I went for my bottom surgery she painted my fingers and toe nails in this color (to make sure the doctor remembered to make me a girl), much to my disgust, and the color grew on me. In the dead of winter, when my toes are covered in hosiery and boots, I will wear a clear nail polish, just to make my feet feel girly.
Enjoying ride the hormones are giving me... finally becoming the woman I always knew I was
